A gifted physician, she worked with Partners in Health in Haiti and Rwanda to ensure fellow clinicians understood the socioeconomic barriers patients faced so they could provide the best care. She later co-founded nonprofit EqualHealth to expand on that work, creating a global organization to build awareness of social and structural factors affecting health. It was so powerful to co-create this Op-Ed highlighting the impact of U.S. imperialism on Haiti's healthcare system through the story of a 5-year-old girl who recently died from a malignant cerebral tumour. "The violence imposed on the citizens of Haiti by external forces of white supremacy, particularly in Port-au-Prince, has created disruptions that interfere with meeting even these basic healthcare needs of the Haitian people." We've raised $3,288—help us challenge systems of oppression in communities facing insecurity and lack of access to basic healthcare services through our work, which supports and develops local advocates and health workers to lead and engage in impactful movements and campaigns.

In 2015 I joined other students in Gulu Uganda for the social medicine course. Little did I know that it was going to be a significant experience that was going to shape my personal and professional trajectory. The social medicine course changed how I viewed inequity and strengthened my analysis of the social and structural determination of health. I encourage you all to continue supporting this important work.
