Contributing to a more accessible world

关于我们

In the past, many people with disabilities did not have the same freedom of access to information as the rest of society, but now, technology has the potential to eliminate this disparity. Equal Entry shares news and information about these technologies, highlighting innovations that strive to make information accessible to all audiences. It amazes us how frequently these kinds of innovations are overlooked. Our mission is to encourage more equitable access to information by raising awareness about the work in this field.

Uber has introduced a new app feature that allows riders to self-identify as service animal handlers. This setting, available in the app’s profile section, enables users to opt in and notify drivers in advance, improving ride transparency. If a driver attempts to cancel a trip due to a service animal, the app triggers a compliance warning, reminding them that refusal is against the law and confirming their intent to cancel. Uber’s backend tracks violations, potentially leading to driver deactivation. This feature was developed over two years with accessibility advocates to enhance the ride experience for service animal users. https://buff.ly/40ZCt8c Image: Screenshot of Uber UI on the Service animal page with I will ride with my service animal selected in a toggle button and I want drivers to know I will ride with my service animal when: Drivers arrive to pick me up radio button selected
