School is back in session and no one knows the importance of protecting equal access to education quite like 2023 Fellows Makiah Lyons, Vanessa Aceves, Breanna Bollig, and Rachel Niegelberg. Their projects range from challenging discriminatory discipline and identity-based bullying in schools to helping students of all ages who have trouble talking or communicating at school by getting them access to communication devices. We spoke with each of them about their work and how public interest law can serve our educational systems. Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/e3FbASCf

2022 Fellow Kat Grant, hosted by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, recently spoke with South County Mail about a newly introduced school policy in the Francis Howell School District in Missouri that infringes upon the rights of LGBTQ+ students. Kat, whose project is focused on improving the legal landscape for LGBTQ+ people, scrutinized the policy as "an unjust injection of religious ideologies into school operations."
