Last Tuesday, our team packed STEM kits for SparkShop, a Chicago nonprofit dedicated to promoting STEM education. As recipients of a 2023 Epstein Community Foundation Grant, SparkShop is helping shape the future by empowering young women with the skills and knowledge to succeed in STEM fields. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to this initiative and support the next generation of innovators. Last week, Ed Curley, AIA, LEED AP and Ryan Clancy-Leodoro had the privilege of attending the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Willard Ice Building—an event that truly underscored the legacy of this remarkable structure. Hearing from a lineup of impactful speakers, including Governor JB Pritzker, we were reminded that the Willard Ice Building is more than just an architectural landmark; it's a symbol of vision, meticulous oversight, and dedication. The building is home to the Illinois Department of Revenue and named after Willard Ice. Its significance goes beyond its unique design, it's an integral part of the Capitol Complex and a testament to the hard work of everyone involved over the decades. We are proud to have played a part in this iconic building's story as the Engineer of Record. Drafting Success at the Chicago Build Expo 2024! As we wrapped up the final day, we were proud to have five of our talented Epstein team members—Ed Curley, AIA, LEED AP, Laura Rebbe, L Randall Buescher AIA, Ryan Peterson, AICP, and Patrick Carata, AIA, LEED BDC Carata—share their expertise in insightful, key discussions that are driving the AEC industry forward. In order, they spoke on emerging trends in high-rise design, preservation and adaptive reuse, women shaping the future of construction, urban design for safer cities, inclusion, and strategies for reducing environmental impact. We are grateful to everyone who visited our booth or connected with our amazing staff at the panels. Last week, Laura Rebbe and Jennifer Heiney attended the Women Leadership Summit #AIAWLS where they were able to meet and reconnect with industry peers and trailblazing leaders.?In addition to the keynote addresses, some sessions that inspired were the Strategies for Mentorship, Networking, & Sponsorship in Architecture; Breaking Barriers Through Accessibility, Advocacy, & Inclusion; and the Creating Equitable Talent Pipelines Through Architectural Apprenticeship sessions. ?
