The world’s #nuclearpowerplants can help meet the increasing demand for generation capacity, particularly due to electrification and data centers to power AI. A recent EPRI publication highlights three strategies to increase capacity from the current nuclear fleet: restarts, uprates, and operating life extension. The industry can harness these opportunities as new technologies are developed and brought online. Learn more about EPRI’s research in this area here:?https://lnkd.in/eG4BJKKv

In a new episode of?NARUC’s Tech Talk for Regulators,?EPRI’s?Erika Willis?joins?Jody Raines?to discuss current efforts to protect substations and critical energy infrastructure. The conversation focuses on deterrent technologies that are being tested—many in EPRI labs—and how power companies should respond to detected threats. From sensors and AI to robotics and drones, these emerging technologies could be a key tactic to increasing the security of our nation’s energy infrastructure. But as Erika warns, there’s no one-size-fits-all for every substation: “One thing that I say is don’t try to use the same broad-brush stroke for every substation. You have to look at it and see what is going to have the biggest impact to change your situational awareness for that substation, as opposed to saying ‘I’m going to put a robot in every substation.’ Whether it’s the ability to detect for one substation, or if it’s really remote, to deter copper theft. What is the most critical for that particular substation.” Listen to the full conversation! ???? https://lnkd.in/eQtGfnpe
