Yesterday four Members of Congress braved the snow to show up for the epilepsies to reintroduce the National Plan for Epilepsy. Thank you to the Senate and House Epilepsy Caucus Co-Chairs: Senator Schmitt (MO), Senator Klobuchar (MN), Representative Costa (CA) and Representative Murphy (NC). Each shared that this is personal and they are committed to seeing this legislation passed and signed into law. Our community is grateful for your leadership. EAN is working diligently toward the passage of the National Plan while keeping a watch on what's happening now too. The Department of Defense funds medical research that is vital for patients and improving outcomes, but the proposed CR would slash funding by 57%! The vote is TONIGHT! The bill called the Continuing Resolution for FY2025 (CR) would cut the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) to $650 million?for FY25 when it currently is $859 million. This would be a devastating blow to research in various conditions including epilepsy! Our Warfighters, Veterans, and civilian patient population (for dual use innovations) all deserve to get the best care possible, which requires this medical research.
