EO recently hosted an inspiring Family Engagement event in our unique Career Commons space featuring Nathan Harmon, who shared a powerful message about how choices matter and the importance of having a trusted support system. Thanks to our amazing partnerships with Highlands Community Services (HCS), Communities In Schools of Appalachian Highlands, and Washington County Public Schools, we brought Nathan’s impactful message to all high schools in the district and their families.

EO hosted a VEX Robotics Scrimmage between Rural Retreat Middle and Wallace Middle earlier today! The students showcased incredible innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as their robots went head-to-head in an exciting competition. This morning, we were honored to welcome Chancellor Dore and the State Board for Community Colleges to EO. This visit marks the first time in many years that this governing body has met in Southwest Virginia, and we were proud to showcase what happens when public, private, and philanthropic partners come together to create solutions. During their visit, the group toured the EO Workforce and Child Development Hub and heard from EO President + CEO Travis Staton, as well as an EO Board member and supporter, Steve Smith, President and CEO of Food City. Their visit reinforced the power of collaboration in building stronger communities and expanding economic opportunity. We look forward to future partnerships that continue to move our region forward! This prestigious national recognition highlights transformative projects leveraging New Markets Tax Credits funding to revitalize underserved communities and drive economic development. EO’s nomination stems from our groundbreaking Regional Workforce and Child Development Hub that has repurposed the former K-Mart building in Abingdon into a vibrant center for workforce and educational development.
