Reducing the Cost & Time to Develop Next Gen Energy Storage Materials

Eonix, a Knoxville, TN based company, has developed the only platform that pairs a materials innovation (ATLAS sensor) with the deep learning/quantum mechanics calculations to rapidly design custom chemistry lithium-ion batteries that solve industry specific pain points, enabling faster charging consumer electronics, safer grid storage, and affordable electric vehicles. This is the first end to end automated material discovery platform for batteries that is 37X faster and 16X cheaper than conventional research. Leveraging this platform, Eonix developed a non-flammable lithium ion battery using materials that are industrially available, commercially viable, and drop-in compatible with existing manufacturing infrastructure. As this non-flammable lithium ion battery chemistry is being scaled, Eonix is continuing to design a portfolio of battery solutions for consumer electronics, grid storage, and electric vehicles.

We are excited to announce Eonix was awarded a $1.7M AFWERX phase II STTR with the Tickle College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee and Dr. Thomas Zawodzinski's research group focused on ultra-high-power batteries for directed energy, counter drone swarms, and e-VTOL systems. The funds will be used to design high conductivity electrolytes that are drop-in compatible with batteries manufactured today and meet the ambitious DoD energy storage targets for next gen platforms. We appreciate the support of the programs (Innovation Crossroads, Spark Innovation Center at the UT Research Park, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm) and individuals (Lilly, Tom, John, Grady, Dennis) that were instrumental in helping us to establish an accelerated materials discovery laboratory capable of tackling these energy storage challenges! "In just 1,000 square feet, Eonix can go from idea to finished product in a fraction of the typical time and cost, thanks to custom-built robots and an advanced sensor. In the lab, a handful of scientists oversee selection and testing of new liquid electrolytes that alter a battery's properties once injected."
