Envision Unlimited is a full spectrum of care organization serving people with intellectual, developmental and psychiatric disabilities from infants to 80+ years old, regardless of race, gender, religion, or ability to pay. Our mission is to provide quality services that promote choice, independence and inclusion among our members. Since our founding in 1948, we have built a legacy of evolving care delivered with empathy, every time and everywhere. Our innovative services include community living options; novel day programs; employment, respite and mental health services; and foster care for children with disabilities. Today, we support 4,500+ members and their caregivers in metropolitan Chicagoland and Central Illinois. We have become an organization well-recognized for the programs and services we create and manage that result in maximum impact for our members. Through outreach, evaluation and service planning, we help thousands of people become part of the community, transition to safe homes and access support services so they can live their lives to their greatest potential.

If you care about people with disabilities, this is an important read. According to the Illinois Department of Human Services, nearly 15% of people with developmental disabilities and medical/behavioral needs who live in Illinois’ state-operated developmental centers are seeking placement elsewhere. And many have been on a waiting list for more than a year. While the state has made progress, “Illinois has a troubled track record of transitioning resident to group homes, and supply remains low.” We can do better to provide support and services to people with disabilities so they're able to thrive in the community. The Envision Unlimited Humanitarian Award shines a light on the dedication of individuals who make a significant difference in the lives of others. This year’s award is presented to Susan Turner in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to make the Envision Unlimited DreamHome a reality, ensuring that our members can age in place with dignity, accessibility and flexibility. For many years, we dreamed of having a fully-accessible, ADA-compliant group home for our older members, so they could continue leading lives that are full of possibilities. ? Susan, the senior technical architect at JLK Architects, volunteered to draft the schematic design to take it to the next stage. After she joined JLK Architects, the principals agreed to become the Architect of Record, pro bono. With that pivotal hurdle cleared, she recruited the consultant team and other members of the construction community pro bono to build the DreamHome. Their response was unprecedented and inspirational. Congratulations, Susan! Show your support for her at our 10th annual Bright Futures Ball on April 5.
