The Envision Unlimited Humanitarian Award shines a light on the dedication of individuals who make a significant difference in the lives of others. This year’s award is presented to Susan Turner in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to make the Envision Unlimited DreamHome a reality, ensuring that our members can age in place with dignity, accessibility and flexibility. For many years, we dreamed of having a fully-accessible, ADA-compliant group home for our older members, so they could continue leading lives that are full of possibilities. ? Susan, the senior technical architect at JLK Architects, volunteered to draft the schematic design to take it to the next stage. After she joined JLK Architects, the principals agreed to become the Architect of Record, pro bono. With that pivotal hurdle cleared, she recruited the consultant team and other members of the construction community pro bono to build the DreamHome. Their response was unprecedented and inspirational. Congratulations, Susan! Show your support for her at our 10th annual Bright Futures Ball on April 5. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at Envision Unlimited for inviting us to their annual Mardi Gras dinner’ I am 50% Creole, so I can genuinely say the food was fantastic, but the company was even more remarkable! It was wonderful to connect with some of our ICDD friends in person and meet the warm, welcoming faces of the Envision Unlimited team. Your dedication fuels our mission and reminds us why we fight for Medicaid and the support our communities need. Earlier today, our Rose Center program director Raul Barrera and member Ana sat down with WGN-TV's Daytime Chicago hosts Amy Rutledge and Tonya Francisco to talk about our services and our Mardi Gras dinner! This annual, lively event highlights our culinary arts program and celebrates our dedicated community partners. Our members are involved in the entire process, from project planning to clean-up. Ana and other members will even prepare the meal and serve guests. We can’t wait to see what they cook up! We love watching our members exercise their right to vote! Over the weekend, they elected officers for the Envision for Freedom chapter. This advocacy group, composed of our members, meets regularly to discuss current events, Envision Unlimited policies, how to speak up about issues impacting them and more. Every year, participating members coordinate their participation in the Disability Pride Parade, and they have an ambitious agenda ahead, which will include more networking with other chapters and legislators.
