We interviewed Sharon Weaver from the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, Inc. about CEMEX's reckless plan to blast a 600-ft deep pit along the San Joaquin River. The toxic dust, water pollution, and habitat destruction will harm our health and environment. We must stop this.

?? Something to Celebrate ?? Last week, the EnviroVoters team traveled to the Capital to advocate for public lands, climate advocacy, and our 30x30 goals at the Power in Nature Lobby Day. Our incredible partners at the Power in Nature coalition, made up for 300 environmental groups (including us!), spent the day lobbying for priority bills, defending climate bond funding, and resisting federal program cuts in the upcoming budget. Our team met with 11 legislative offices, including four legislators, that represent the Central Coast, the Sierra Nevada, and the San Joaquin Valley to get their buy-in on vital bills on water rights, land conservation funding, wildlife protections, and regional planning. The lobby day was a massive success, with our team securing bipartisan support on initiatives like strengthening forest health to create carbon sinks. We also built vital relationships in key districts like the Central Valley and the Sierras to push progress forward. We're so grateful for supporters like you, for giving us the resources we need to make our work--including this lobby day--possible. Moving environmental protections forward takes dedication, consistency, and time, and it's all made possible thanks to the EnviroVoters community. ?? Something to Do ?? Do you have questions for your Congressional representatives? We'll pass them along! Next week, our team is heading to Washington D.C to meet with Congressmembers and share the top concerns we're hearing on the ground in their districts. We'll meet with California's lawmakers to advocate for the key issues we're hearing on the ground through our regional organizing work, gathering support for bills and policies that their constituents are most invested in. We're planning to talk to them about priorities like clean air, public lands protection, and making polluters pay--but these conversations are far more powerful when we can share personal stories from voters like you. Will you fill out our 3-minute form to highlight your top concerns for your Congressional Representatives?: https://bit.ly/43Z14f5

??? Big Oil knew burning fossil fuels would fuel extreme wildfires — they lied, and Californians are paying the price. Now, homeowners are paying more for the damage big oil caused. Insurance companies weren’t designed to handle the costs of runaway climate change. We need a solution that holds the companies most responsible — Big Oil and Gas — accountable to pay their fair share. #SB222 will keep insurance affordable by holding Big Oil accountable.

Big Oil knew. For decades, they lied to protect their profits — and now Californians are paying the price. This is why we need #SB222 to hold them accountable. "In recent years, Californians have lost insurance options and faced higher insurance rates as insurers are bled dry from growing climate disaster costs. Los Angeles wildfires may accelerate this trend, with California’s largest private insurer receiving provisional approval for emergency rate hikes – 22% for homeowners, 15% for condo owners, and 38% for renters." ??It’s official: Sen. Caroline Menjivar and Asm. Dawn Addis have introduced the new Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act in CA! By 2050, costs for damages from extreme climate disasters are estimated to be $113 billion PER YEAR in California. Meanwhile, Big Oil has profited billions of dollars while polluting our state — and they want YOU to foot the bill. Enough is enough-- we need to pass #SB684 and #AB1243! #MakePollutersPay #California #CALeg #BigOil

Feeling ? grateful? for the community that showed out last week. Let’s be very clear: People are losing their jobs because Trump wants to gut our public lands, just like he said he would in the Project 2025 playbook. This man wants to make you sicker, poorer, and less safe. The Supreme Court ruled to restrict the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority under the Clean Water Act, limiting the power of environmental regulators to prevent ocean discharges of polluted stormwater.
