关于我们
Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) cultivates a passion for science, leadership and service in a diverse community of learners. Through mentorship, stewardship, outdoor experiences, and hands-on exploration ELK builds pathways to nature, college, science careers, and other "destinations" where our youth are historically underrepresented. We serve diverse youth around the Denver metro area. ELK (Environmental Learning for Kids) is an inclusive non-profit organization that develops inspired and responsible leaders through science education and outdoor experiences for underserved, urban youth ages 5-25. ELK Inspires youth to have high expectations of themselves by exposing them to the outdoors and engaging them in service learning projects. For many of the youth ELK serves, it’s their first experience with the outdoors. ELK Educates youth through science and environmental education embedded in all programs and activities, furthers students’ understanding and attitudes toward science, the outdoors, their communities, college, and careers. ELK Transforms youth by endowing them with increased academic skills, civic and community leadership, environmental stewardship, and employment opportunities.

"I understand the challenges that many students face in accessing quality education and support. I would love to help break the racial injustice inherent in our educational system to give students pride in who they are while they receive quality education. At the same time, I had restrained myself from joining any sort of community programs or volunteering work due to the fear I had of failure. One day I decided to tag along with another ELK staff member to one of their events where they focused on connecting with people. That was the first day I learned about them and their passion to bring outdoor education to our community. I had never realized that the resource I had been yearning for, the group of people who really understood my passion for education, was just a few blocks away from my home." Thank you so much for joining us at our largest fundraiser of the year, ELK ‘n Eggs! Your presence and support are invaluable in helping us empower under-encouraged youth to explore the wonders of nature and discover first and foremost, the joy these beautiful spaces can bring. With your generosity, we can continue to inspire young minds to engage with STEM and natural resource career fields while developing essential leadership skills. Together, we’re creating opportunities that will shape their futures and foster a deeper connection with the environment. Because of YOUR support, we were able to raise $97,445 just this morning, in support of advancing outdoor equity. To say that we appreciate you would be a true understatement. If you weren’t able to attend today but would still like to contribute, it’s not too late! We're just $2,555 away from hitting our fundraising goal of raising $100,000. You can still give a gift to help us continue this important work at https://lnkd.in/gnMuqxEb. If you've already gotten your GREAT deed out of the way for the day, thank you again for your commitment to making a difference. Together, we’re opening doors for the next generation to experience the great outdoors and all it has to offer.

This past Saturday, ELK youth and families enjoyed a day of fishing fun at Lake Lehow! We started the day viewing lots of wildlife in the area, including deer and redtail hawks. Students and families then got to observe different wildlife in their ecosystem, including how they hunt or find food. As always, the lake ecosystem is the main focus of fishing programs. Many of our participants caught their first fish this weekend - aided by the cooler temps. Well, that and the worms - our real MVP's!

"On day two of their trip, the Rangers arrived at a stunning camping spot with an irresistible swimming hole. Laughter echoed all afternoon as the Rangers splashed each other, extracted clay from mud, and played water polo. Allison and Malik found themselves scaling a 1.7-billion-year-old cliff, then leaping off the ledge into the water below. Allison recalls, “We had an incredibly fun time, and I’m so glad you were able to capture one of the best moments on this trip!” The sheer joy of climbing, jumping, and swimming in such a breathtaking location was a highlight for many of the Rangers."
