We are THRILLED to announce the official opening of the new farm-themed playscape at Allardale Park where children can explore, play, and create lasting memories! A ribbon cutting was held this morning (September 4) with members of the Allard Family, community representatives, MCPD staff, MCPD board, Davey Resource Group, Inc., MARKS CONSTRUCTION INC, and Mom's Club of Medina West. Allardale Park is located at 401 Remsen Road in Granger Township. ? The playscape features a 30-foot slide, giant tire swing, balance beam and hopping logs, a play tractor, and more. Many of the components have a ‘DIY’ feel, which was important to members of the Allard family, who have long wanted young visitors to be able to play “on a farm” and use their imaginations. "We are excited to see a space where children of all ages can enjoy being outside and learning a little about what farmers used and continue to use," said Marianne Woodside, niece of Stan and Esther Allard, the couple whose donation of 100 acres to the park district in the 1990s led to the creation of Allardale Park. For parents and grandparents seeking relaxation, three large silos at the site provide shade, and picnic tables offer ample seating. Additionally, a new ADA-accessible crushed limestone trail surrounds the playscape, ensuring inclusivity and easy access for everyone. A nearby open-air shelter, with views of the playscape, can be reserved for events. The playscape was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Allard family. Stan and Esther's nieces and nephews had dreamed of a playscape at the park for more than a dozen years, and recently contributed $250,000 toward the project through the nonprofit Friends of Medina County Parks.
