Designed for nature, engineered for life. Envirolok offers a long-term, sustainable alternative that is cost-effective and easy to install for many erosion and slope stabilization concerns. Our patented tan bag technology provides a permanent vegetated solution by combining the engineered strength of soil with the principles of plant ecology. Envirolok’s non-woven geotextile bags permanently encapsulate the soil for maximized stability. Our patented connecting spikes provide shear strength and make the system compatible with advanced reinforcement techniques, such as geogrid and earth/rock anchoring systems. The system is simple. Unlike traditional Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall systems and Reinforced Soil Slopes (RSS), our system does not require extensive footings and backfill. Minimal excavation means that Envirolok can be installed in limited access areas and without great impact on surrounding environments. Once the bags are filled, lay the bags in an overlapping pattern, compact, install the spikes, and repeat. Next, you are ready to vegetate. Plant roots create a binding matrix through the bags and into the parent soil, locking the soil in place and providing permanent stabilization. The Envirolok system has various vegetation application methods to fit any budget, site condition, and aesthetic. You can customize your plantings to suit your needs and work with our plant experts on staff to select the option that works best for you.     Here's a quick tip to help keep your Envirolok installation strong, consistent, and level. Prior to setting each bag, wrap the "snorkel" or extra material underneath the bag. This helps ensure that each bag is at the specified 26" L x 5.5" H. We often see the product installed without the extra fabric tucked under. While this method is strong and resilient, it is often more challenging to keep level and the final bag dimensions tend to be about 34" L x 4.5" H

Today we get started with bag setting and the importance of maintaining a running bond pattern and proper bag overlap between each course. It can be tricky when when working on a curve, corner, or even a straight run. Don't forget to set an occasional "Tie-Back" Bag" (perpendicular set) to help maintain proper overlap.

    Here is a quick look back at the Wolf Creek Restoration in Roanoke County, VA the pictures are taken exactly one year apart, Such great vegetative results and strengthened banks using the Envirolok system. Thank you to Ben Bradley of Trout Unlimited for sending these great photos. The project was designed by Freese and Nichols and installed in two phases of work. Phase II installation as pictured was completed by Ecotone, Inc. Great job to an amazing team!

    We had the opportunity for a follow up visit on some of the amazing Envirolok reinforced shorelines, slopes and retaining walls at Long Cove, in Malakoff, TX. The pool project looks amazing! The clean vegetative backdrop of the Envirolok system creates a great canvas for the hardscape and pergola.
