Microplastics in Feed: A Growing Concern for Sustainable Agriculture Microplastics are turning up in unexpected places—including?animal feed. A new study published in the?Journal of Insects as Food and Feed?reveals that?certain plastics can transfer from feed to Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), raising important questions about?feed safety and sustainability. ???What the Research Found: ???LDPE plastics were nearly absent in post-exposure larvae, but?PET particles—commonly found in food packaging—were detected. ???Microplastics don’t just disappear.?Their potential presence in BSFL raises concerns about?contamination in?feed and food systems. ???Insects are not a plastic disposal system.?To?maximize their potential in circular agriculture, they need?clean, nutrient-rich feed. At?EnviroFlight, we take this issue seriously.?Our larvae diets are formulated with AAFCO-approved ingredients, providing safe and wholesome nutrition, and?are harvested and processed in the USA.?After all, #youarewhatyoueat. ???What’s Next? This study reinforces the need for?strict feed quality control in insect agriculture. As BSFL?become?a more prominent part of?sustainable protein production, ensuring they?are reared?on?clean, responsibly sourced feed is critical to their success. ?? Read the?full?study here:?https://lnkd.in/gzRvR3W8 ?? What are your thoughts on microplastics in feed?
