New on Entomology Today: Kissing bugs are commonly found in dog kennels, which can make them hot spots for transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite that causes Chagas disease. A study by Texas A&M researchers on transmission risk in dog kennels encountered a surprising finding: a dead kissing bug harboring a still-viable parasite in its gut. The researchers say this complicates management plans, as dogs may still be at risk of acquiring the parasite if they ingest dead kissing bugs.

Trillions of #insects move around the globe each year. Scientists are working on new ways to map those long-distance journeys.

NEWS: Hugh Smith, Ph.D., vegetable entomologist at the University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, has been selected as the next editor-in-chief of ESA's Journal of Integrated Pest Management. A buggy weekend ?????????????????????????? at Entomological Society of America Annual Conference. It was exciting presenting my research on how floral architecture influence pathogen transmission in bumblebees, learning from insightful talks from research scientists, and meeting with faculty, students, and industry professionals. A standout moment was joining the ESA Education and Outreach Committee meeting, where I look forward to contributing to advancing entomological education.
