The recent amendment to Para 15 of the Master Circular for Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs) dated May 16, 2024, brings important clarifications and updates on how defaults are treated in the bond and debenture market. ?????? ????????????????????: ??????????????? ????????????????????: A one-day delay or shortfall in payment will still be considered a default unless the debt is rescheduled prior to the due date. ????????????? ????????????:?The post-default curing period for CRAs to upgrade ratings from default to non-investment grade has been clarified, with a 90-day period to assess the company’s performance post-default. ??????????????????? ????????????????:?The term ‘technical default’ has been removed, and CRAs are now required to verify the reasons for non-payment due to factors beyond the issuer’s control, such as incorrect investor details or government freezes. ???????????????????????? ???? ??????????????????????: CRAs must disclose payment failures, reasons, and the amounts involved to Stock Exchanges, Depositories, and Debenture Trustees, ensuring better transparency and investor protection.
