I loved the team, a group of bold, brilliant, passionate, customer centric innovators that I will always feel connected to via the special #TeamMagenta spirit.”
Vice President Global Marketing @Google | former CMO | T-Mobile | Quiksilver | Managing Director of TBWA/Chiat/Day LA
Thanks so much to all who have shared birthday wishes today! I’ve been reflecting on how much has changed these last few years, from joining Google five years ago to welcoming Niko into our family months ago and many more special moments in between. There has been so much to celebrate and even more to learn from, but I wanted to share four lessons in this moment of reflection that I’ve found helpful along the way: Take a Leap: I loved my work at T-Mobile I loved the team, a group of bold, brilliant, passionate, customer centric innovators that I will always feel connected to via the special #TeamMagenta spirit. The company's willingness to take bold fearless leaps of industry changing proportions was not only inspiring to be part of but also a fundamental part of the company's growth agenda winning its unfair share of conversation and net additions with each ‘Uncarrier Event’. Taking a leap or stepping into the unknown can be incredibly rewarding, a space where huge change and innovation occurs on a personal and business level. Keep taking Leaps. Do The Hard Things First: Almost every morning the last 5 years, I took a cold plunge and I’ll tell you why. It's the hardest thing I do to start my day. If I can accomplish that one hard thing I have the mental fortitude to tackle everything else that follows however hard. That’s true for anything in life that tests you. If you can face your challenges head-on each morning, you’ll have the momentum you need to take on anything that the rest of the day throws at you. Make your mornings count! Decide What Matters: Balancing family, work, and life is hard work, but as I’ve said before, being a good father to my children is the most important job I have. I’ve set some non-negotiables for myself: making time to run with my daughter, driving my son to his soccer matches and caring for my newborn with my partner, Alex. You can’t have everything in life, so choose how you want to spend your limited hours purposely in a day before life chooses for you. Pay It Forward: I feel very fortunate to get to be doing what I’m passionate about, alongside an incredible team. One of my biggest priorities is coaching and mentorship. The next generation of marketing professionals never fails to inspire me none more so than at Google. Seeing members of my team reach their full potential is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. It helps build a high performance culture where individuals have a platform to become the best versions of themselves. I'm incredibly grateful to many who have guided my career and hope that I can do the same for others. #google #career
