“I just wanted somewhere I could call home: a place of peace. Everything that I need will be right here.” For Mattie and her neighbors at The Pearl in Jackson, Mississippi, “everything” includes a beautiful, affordable home with on-site health services. The 76-unit community is one of two developments made possible by Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, Inc.'s Health + Housing innovation using financing from health insurers like Medicaid managed care organizations. To help scale this kind of development, GCHP is collaborating with health partners to track key data points and demonstrate the positive impact of linking health and housing. “This is no longer an abstract project – it’s a real place where people live and their lives will be impacted by the building, the healthy design practices, and the culturally competent care they’ll receive,” says GCHP’s Kevin Krejci.

Today, we celebrate and honor #IndigenousPeoplesDay. We are proud to stand beside and behind our Tribal housing partners in their work toward economic self-sufficiency and self-determination. Earlier this year, Tribal, government, finance, and community leaders from across the country convened for the first-ever National Tribal Housing Ecosystem Summit. The Summit inspired wide-ranging discussions focused on a common theme: a desire to create homes and invest in communities across Indian Country, all while building upon the strength of Native American history, culture, and values. Our Executive Director Ralphine Caldwell took a moment to share about our amazing partnership with Fifth Third Bank and Enterprise Community Partners, which supports resident?led initiatives in West?Charlotte. The Empowering Black Futures Program has supported our grassroots partners in achieving initiatives that they imagined to be more long-term, but that are now coming to fruition. This includes projects like The Legacy at Carr Heights that offers 120 senior apartments, developed in partnership with the West Side Community Land Trust (West Side CLT) that will maintain ownership of the land.?
