?? Caught on security cam: This pergola flies away in a mild wind... Why? Some may not catch it the first time, but the failure repeats at 25% speed - see it? The louvers closed and created an unexpected uplift force.? Many engineers design these mechanically louvered pergolas to open during high winds, but the wind could also cause damage, as seen here. Always consider ample connections for the worst-case scenario, including accidental louver closure. Mother Nature is a powerful force. NOTE: The brand, location, and installer of the pergola are unknown. A client provided a video with no details.

ICF Home Construction - Is it better??? My thoughts: ICF, or insulated concrete forms, is an alternate method of building a substantial, solid concrete home. Here are my thoughts as I watch this home be constructed: ? The labor time to form and fill this polystyrene shell was multiples of conventional masonry or wood frame construction. ?? ? Openings & items placed in & through the wall required extensive consideration, making for precise construction and costly mistakes. ?? ? It's much more expensive to build with few experts in the field. ?? ? The home exterior will be stucco over the polystyrene, which can be more easily damaged. But on the upside... ? The home is solid concrete and the strongest around. ?? ? The insulating properties are much better than any other form of construction. ?? ? It's the quietest home to live in (with the proper glazing. This home will also have a second floor, and the floor and roof will be solid concrete. What do you think about this type of construction?
