Addis Energy is commercializing a new ammonia production pathway that revolutionizes a century-old process. By targeting iron-rich resources in the subsurface, Addis is forging a new pathway for chemical synthesis: injecting engineered fluids that harness the chemical and thermal potential of the earth to produce clean ammonia. This transforms ammonia synthesis into a net energy-positive process without any CO2 emissions, enabling ammonia production at 75% of the cost of Haber-Bosch. This technology, invented by Iwnetim (Tim) Abate, PhD at MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was published today by Joule and featured by MIT News. In addition to cutting-edge research, the founding team combines decades of tough tech experience from Yet-Ming Chiang with oil and gas experience from Michael Alexander and Charlie Mitchell, P.E.
