Soon, we’ll showcase how our millimeter wave system can integrate with any oil and gas rig in the world to unlock superhot #geothermal at scale.     Last month, we reached another milestone on our path to?superhot #geothermal?power: demonstrating?millimeter wave #drilling?outside of the lab for the very first time. To put that in perspective, it was only three years ago that our team started testing with millimeter waves. We took those early learnings from?Oak Ridge National Laboratory?and set up a humming campus here in Houston. We reached our?100x target?in 2023 and tested at higher power throughout 2024. Now, we’re drilling under the open sky. Millimeter wave drilling is the keystone of superhot geothermal. It’s the only way to access the resource at scale while reaching?economic and power parity?with fossil fuels. Over the coming months, two more drilling field tests will pave the way to our?first commercial developments.     Congratulations to Addis Energy on their launch today and their $4.5M award from ARPA-E’s Vision OPEN program, recognizing the revolutionary potential of their technology that turns the earth into a chemical production factory. Addis Energy is commercializing a new ammonia production pathway that revolutionizes a century-old process. By targeting iron-rich resources in the subsurface, Addis is forging a new pathway for chemical synthesis: injecting engineered fluids that harness the chemical and thermal potential of the earth to produce clean ammonia. This transforms ammonia synthesis into a net energy-positive process without any CO2 emissions, enabling ammonia production at 75% of the cost of Haber-Bosch. This technology, invented by Iwnetim (Tim) Abate, PhD at MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was published today by Joule and featured by MIT News. In addition to cutting-edge research, the founding team combines decades of tough tech experience from Yet-Ming Chiang with oil and gas experience from Michael Alexander and Charlie Mitchell, P.E.
