We are proud to highlight the achievements of Jadda Miller, a Ph.D. student in the University of California, Davis - School of Education and an alum of our Public Scholars for the Future program. Jadda is a 2024-2025 Institute of the Environment Earth Scholar and has received a Public Impact Research Initiative grant to support her project, "Ho?omalu ?āina Maui" (Protecting the Land of Maui), a community science approach to land stewardship for wildfire mitigation. I recently had the pleasure of participating in the University of California, Davis Leadership Job Shadow Program, spending the day with Giovanni Terrones this week and Sarah Marìn in October. The experience was not only an opportunity to share insights from my role as Vice Provost but also to listen and learn from the next generation of leaders. I was impressed by the students' thoughtful questions and their eagerness to understand the complexities of public scholarship and engagement.

Congratulations to Alicia Rusoja, Ph.D., who was named a 2024 Hellman Fellow. An alum of our Public Scholarship Faculty Fellows program, Rusoja employs community-based research and university-community partnerships to explore educational practices, challenges and resources in Latinx immigrant communities. https://lnkd.in/gTM73hHe

The Public Impact Research Initiative provides funding for research that is cogenerated with community partners, is of mutual benefit, and has a positive public impact. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: IA COLLABORATORIES due in TWO WEEKS: Monday, December 2, 2024 IA members are invited to submit proposals to form new collaboratories starting in 2025. This is the first invitation for IA Collaboratories in over a decade, welcoming emergent partnerships and new communities of practice to form in areas of shared interest among IA members and partners in the broader IA network. One or more lead convener(s) must be from an IA member campus. Faculty, staff, or graduate students are invited to propose. We encourage proposals co-lead by conveners at different IA member institutions. Proposals should demonstrate deep collaboration either within your institution, with other IA member campuses, or in your region. Associate Professor Clare Cannon, Department of Human Ecology, has been appointed as faculty advisor to Michael Rios, vice provost for public scholarship in the Office of Public Scholarship and Engagement (PSE).
