CREA is an independent research organisation revealing the trends, causes, health impacts and solutions to air pollution
关于我们
We are an independent research organisation focused on revealing the trends, causes, and health impacts, as well as the solutions to air pollution. Health-harming pollutants from burning fossil fuels are responsible for at least 3 million air pollution deaths per year. However, rapid advances in modern, clean energy technologies are a key opportunity to improve air quality and protect public health. We use scientific data, research and evidence to support the efforts of governments, companies and campaigning organizations worldwide in their efforts to move towards clean energy and clean air. We believe that effective research and communication are the key to successful policies, investment decisions and advocacy efforts.

???? NEW | Report: Increased SO? emissions from coal-fired power plants: FGD installation should not be delayed further ?? India has become largest sulphur dioxide - SO? - emitter due to coal use for electricity ? SO? air pollutant impacts public health, environment & climate ??? Satellite data analysis shows an increase in sulphur dioxide (SO?) levels in India in 2023 compared to 2019 ?? There is notable rise in SO2 in regions dominated by coal-fired power plants (CFPPs), highlighting influence of power plant emissions on air quality ?? CREA's bottom-up estimates find 4,327 kilotonnes (kt) of SO? were released by 537 CFPP units from June 2022 to May 2023: ?? State sector contributed 1,563 kt; 36% of total emissions ?? Central sector: 1,426 kt; 33% of emissions ?? Private sector: 1,339 kt; 31% of emissions ?? ?? CFPPs in India emitted over 10 times & 240 times higher, respectively, than the 26.7 kilotonnes of particulate matter & 17.8 kilotonnes of SO? released from burning 8.9 million tonnes of paddy straw ?? Less than 8% of CFPP capacity has completed flue gas desulphurization (FGD) installation to control SO? emissions FGD technology would lead to notable reduction in SO? emissions across all sectors ?? Post-FGD implementation, emissions have dropped to 500 kt for state sector alone ???? New report on India's sulphur dioxide - SO? - emissions & urgency of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) control measures is now available here: ? https://lnkd.in/ewJiS6F7 #AirPollution #AirQuality #CFPP #CleanEnergy #CleanAir #Climate #Coal #CoalFiredPowerPlant #Emissions #Environment #India #PaddyStrawBurning #PublicHealth #SO2 #SulphurDioxide

???? NEW | Insights: New European Commission must embrace leadership role in path to Russian fossil fuel independence & energy security amid volatile global landscape & Trump presidency on the horizon w/CREA's Petras Katinas ???? Following the US election last week that saw Donald Trump elected as the 47th president of the United States, a report has surfaced detailing a potential proposal by the U.S. President-elect to halt Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine ?? Trump's plan to halt Russia's invasion of Ukraine allegedly involves ‘freezing’ the conflict by creating autonomous regions on each side of a demilitarised zone and keeping Ukraine out of NATO ? Yet, Trump's proposal to halt Russia's invasion of Ukraine is just as notable for what it leaves unsaid: what would become of the sweeping Western sanctions against Russia, particularly those targeting its oil and gas sectors ??? One possible future scenario could be that the incoming U.S. administration might leverage the energy sanctions in negotiations with Moscow, offering to lift them in exchange for a ceasefire ???? In this context, the new EC has a rare historic opportunity to show leadership, setting a clear path away from Russian fossil fuels & supporting Ukraine's sovereignty in words and sustained and strategic action ?? Europe must stay the course, holding firm on its commitment to both end its reliance on, and maintain its sanctions on, Russian fossil fuels This would mean limiting revenue that fuels Russia's aggression against Ukraine & weakening Moscow's ability to finance its military ???? ?? This vision also aligns with the EU's RePowerEU initiative, which aims to phase out Russian energy by 2027 Yet, despite its ambitious goals, RePowerEU's implementation has encountered significant challenges, creating gaps that Moscow continues to exploit The new European Commission has a pivotal opportunity to address these issues, bolster the EU's energy security, and reaffirm its commitment to Ukraine ????
