More and more tech industry leaders like Google are turning to clean energy like advanced nuclear to meet AI's high energy demand and drive scientific innovation without harming our climate. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and our White House partners have held a series of convenings with hyperscalers laying out how the tech world can power operations and data centers with clean energy. It's encouraging to see leaders in the industry heed this call in a way that drives innovation and gets us closer to the Biden-Harris Administration’s ambitious goal of a nation powered by 100% clean energy by 2035.

?? Just Announced: Meta Pledges $35M for Carbon Removal Projects with the Department of Energy ?? This announcement is a direct response to the Voluntary Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchasing Challenge presented by DOE, which calls for companies to help catalyze carbon removal at gigaton scales in the coming decades. ?? Meta is pledging to contract at least $35M for carbon removal projects in the coming year as part of its goal to achieve net zero emissions across Meta's value chain in 2030. ??? "We hope our pledge will encourage others to make similar pledges, ultimately helping to scale the market and reduce the cost of carbon removal technologies," according to Meta's press release: https://lnkd.in/eKW34T3G ?? The pledge matches DOE’s own commitment to advance technologies that remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere.

Through this funding, OCED aims to support the deployment of a variety of commercially available, clean energy technologies, demonstrating the viability and benefits to rural and remote residents, and ultimately encouraging widespread adoption.
