Our Health Is on the Line — It’s Time to Ditch Dirty Diesel Every day, diesel trucks pump harmful pollutants into our air — especially in communities near highways, warehouses, and ports. These emissions aren't just an eyesore — they’re linked to asthma, heart disease, cancer, and premature death. Energy Vision’s latest report, “A Path to a Healthier America: Ditching Old Diesel Trucks,” lays out how we can transition away from toxic diesel and toward cleaner, healthier alternatives. This is more than a transportation issue — it’s a public health emergency. Check out the article to learn why replacing aging diesel trucks is one of the most powerful steps we can take for our air, our health, and our future: [https://lnkd.in/eX6K7gZh...] Learn More About Energy Vision here: https://lnkd.in/enyGPevv #CleanAir #HealthierAmerica #DieselFree #EnvironmentalJustice #EnergyVision

Tuesday’s Food for Thought: The Cost of Food Waste & the Power of Solutions According to the latest Emerging Trends in Food Waste report (https://lnkd.in/gskzDGgX), methane from landfilled food waste is “28 times as potent as CO? at trapping heat in the atmosphere.” Worse yet, even with landfill gas capture systems, over 50% of methane escapes before it can be collected—fueling climate change. Beyond the environmental toll, food waste is a massive economic loss. As Ryan Begin, CEO of Divert, Inc., puts it: “When you look at the wasted food that goes to landfills, it's approximately $5 to $7 billion per year... Meanwhile, the value of that food is about $410 billion per year. So, the value proposition for us is not only that we participate in the landfill avoidance and provide the diversion opportunity; it’s also about capturing some of that $410 billion. And that's why as a business, we have never lost a customer in 17 years.” Divert, Inc. is leading the charge in solving the food waste crisis through data-driven diversion solutions. By working with food retailers, manufacturers, and distributors, Divert prevents food from becoming waste, facilitates edible food recovery, and converts inedible food into renewable energy through anaerobic digestion (AD). With 14 facilities already in operation, Divert has a bold plan to scale up to 30 nationwide Integrated Diversion & Energy facilities by 2031, putting sustainable food waste solutions within 100 miles of 80% of the U.S. population. The good news? Solutions exist. As the report highlights, “economics are beginning to tilt toward sustainable solutions.” Rising landfill costs and growing regulation are driving businesses to anaerobic digestion, composting, and upcycling food waste into animal feed - a shift that reduces costs while benefiting the planet. Energy Vision has long been an advocate for shifting food waste away from landfills and into anaerobic digesters (ADs), where it can be turned into clean, renewable fuel instead of harmful methane emissions. According to Energy Vision’s Meeting the Methane Challenge report (https://lnkd.in/gieMNZXS), food waste is the most cost-effective AD feedstock, offering the greatest environmental and economic benefits. If scaled properly, AD technology could transform food waste into an energy resource rather than an environmental burden. At Energy Vision, we see food waste not just as a problem, but as an opportunity - to cut harmful emissions, generate renewable energy, and reduce costs for businesses and communities. The question is: will we take action before it’s too late? "We need to make investments in addressing what society is producing as waste before it’s too late." – Ryan Begin, CEO, Divert Let’s rethink waste, together.

New Energy Vision Report: The Best Path to Cleaner, Healthier Communities? Ditching Old Diesel Trucks! The 2.4 million heavy-duty diesel trucks built before 2013 are the most polluting vehicles on U.S. roads. They release toxic emissions that harm public health - especially in communities near highways and warehouses. It’s time for a change. But what’s the best alternative? Energy Vision’s latest report,?A Path to a Healthier America: Ditching Old Diesel Trucks, dives deep into the options for replacing these outdated vehicles. We assessed renewable diesel (RD), battery electric (EVs), and renewable natural gas (RNG) trucks based on?air pollutant reductions,?health benefits, costs, availability, performance, and lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions. Key Findings: New RNG-powered trucks deliver?88% of the health benefits of EVs?from lower air pollution?but at a fraction of the cost. Switching to RNG trucks would save?$10.2 billion or more in fuel costs?over 15 years relative to diesel. Heavy-duty electric trucks are extremely expensive, have very limited availability, don't perform as well, and require expensive?charging infrastructure. RD is a more sustainable alternative to petroleum diesel but offers lower air pollution reductions and health benefits than RNG or EVs. The conclusion??RNG-powered trucks are the most cost-effective and scalable way to counter the scourge of pollution from old diesel trucks today.?By replacing just?130,000 of the oldest diesel trucks, we could prevent?over 100 premature deaths, 230 ER visits, and 660 new asthma cases annually -?saving?$2 billion in healthcare costs each year. Policymakers, fleet operators, and sustainability leaders:?It’s time to act.?Let’s phase out old, polluting diesel trucks and embrace cleaner, more practical solutions that benefit both the planet and public health. Anaerobic digestion #AD and renewable natural gas #RNG are climbing the US climate policy agenda.?They offer a rapid path to lowering methane emissions from agriculture, food waste, and landfills, all of which are major sources, and urgently need redressing along with the?oil and gas sector in?order to meet emissions goals. Energy Vision has found the EPA's new rules for oil and gas infrastructure could cut methane emissions 17.5% by 2030, while AD/RNG could cut another 13.6% if rapidly scaled. Together, these critical strategies can enable the US to meet and exceed the Global Methane Pledge target of cutting methane 30% by 2030. For more on what this could mean?for US policy, see the new video and other documentation of Energy Vision’s September 20 Congressional briefing on leveraging AD/RNG to cut methane emissions,?posted here [https://lnkd.in/gPJSXCmE]. It features Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA 21), Senior Advisor in the Office of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Dr. Ilissa Ocko, Generate Upcycle’s Suzanne Hunt, Kevin Abernathy of the Milk Producers Council, and Energy Vision’s Matt Tomich and Joanna Underwood. Ratcheting down #methane is the best lever we have to limit warming by mid-century. The primary focus of the briefing was on the potential of ramping up AD/RNG and steps Congress can take to help accelerate it. Energy Vision’s recent report “Meeting the Methane Challenge”?[https://lnkd.in/gieMNZXS]?is another resource for policymakers. It has detailed analysis of the feasibility, costs, timing, and impacts of building AD/RNG infrastructure. Michael S.
