With 27 years of global experience in the energy sector, Sayma brings a wealth of expertise in upstream oil and gas, safety, asset optimisation, and energy transition, including Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). ? Sayma has held senior leadership roles at industry giants like bp, ConocoPhillips, Maersk Oil, and Petrofac. Her extensive experience in strategic transformation and operational excellence will be invaluable as we continue to drive growth and innovation. She will also join the Audit & Risk Committee and the Environment, Safety, and Social Responsibility Committee. ? A highly engaging Roundtable Discussion was recently organized by the European Commission Representation in Greece and the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) in Athens. Energean’s Managing Director and Country Manager in Greece, Dr. Katerina Sardi, was honored to participate in a panel focused on "Decarbonisation and Affordable Energy Costs," alongside notable experts like Johannes Luebking, Director of SG REFORM at the European Commission. The discussion, moderated by Nikos Vettas, General Director of IOBE and Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business, covered important topics like the role of innovation in creating resilient economies and expanding the EU’s single market. Dr. Sardi shared an update on Energean’s ongoing initiatives, particularly highlighting the EnEarth Prinos CO2 Storage Project. This project is crucial in supporting the EU's Competitive Compass pillars - contributing to decarbonisation, circular economies, innovation, and skills development. She also discussed the need for adopting best practices from the energy sector in the emerging Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) market, as well as the key risks involved in such projects, including regulatory challenges and the need for clear, stable frameworks to ensure smooth business operations. Reflecting on the Energy Transition, Insights from Nicolas Katcharov at #EGYPES ? Energean International CEO, Nicolas KATCHAROV, recently participated in a panel discussion at EGYPES on The New Pragmatism: Confronting the Realities of the Energy Transition. The session offered some valuable insights into how the global energy trilemma is evolving and how we at Energean are contributing to the ongoing conversation on energy security, affordability, and sustainability. ? Key takeaways: - Energy Trilemma Shift: There’s been a noticeable shift towards balancing energy security and affordability, with sustainability taking a back seat compared to the time of the Paris Agreement. - Focusing on Consumption: Nicolas emphasized that achieving secure, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy requires us to reconsider how energy is consumed. Energy consumption analysis must align with industrial and socioeconomic policies to drive real change. - Energy Efficiency: He called for a stronger focus on improving energy efficiency. As he put it, "The most valuable energy is the energy you don’t use." He highlighted how Egypt's heavy industries, for instance, could be significantly more energy-efficient, which would benefit all stakeholders. - The Role of Policy: Without the right legislation and incentives, change won’t happen.
