A once-in-a-lifetime shot that makes the invisible visible. During XB-1’s 13th flight, we partnered with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration to take this Schlieren image of XB-1 pushing through the air at supersonic speeds. Captured by NASA teams on the ground, it documents the changing air density around XB-1 and the resulting shock wave. Taking Schlieren images requires ideal conditions, timing, and exceptional flying. Boom Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg positioned XB-1 at an exact time in a precise location over the Mojave Desert to enable NASA to photograph XB-1 flying in front of the sun, documenting the changing air density around the aircraft at speeds exceeding Mach 1. Using waypoints computed by NASA, the XB-1 team developed avionics software to guide Geppetto to the precise points in space that XB-1 would have to fly to eclipse the sun. NASA used ground telescopes with special filters that detect air distortions to capture the image. First developed by German physicist August Toepler in 1864, Schlieren photography is now used in aeronautical engineering to show how light bends around pressure differences, revealing the physics of flight. When we started Maxab six years ago, I wouldn’t have thought that by now we would be serving over a quarter of a million retailers in five different markets. However, following a retailer-first approach and working backwards from there has allowed us to redesign the supply chain that serves these retailers, who operate in some of the most underserved areas of our region. Boom is supersonic. On January 28, 2025 at 8:31am PST / 16:31 GMT, XB-1 broke the sound barrier. Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg safely and successfully achieved supersonic speed in XB-1, the first civil supersonic jet made in America. ?New top speed: Mach 1.122 (652 KTAS) ?New max altitude: 35,290 ft. ?Flight time: 34 minutes ?Airspace: Bell X-1 Supersonic Corridor and the Black Mountain Supersonic Corridor in Mojave, CA XB-1 demonstrates that Boom has the team, technology, and tools to deliver supersonic commercial travel with Overture, cutting travel times in half. Congratulations to the Boom team on making aviation history!

Numan's CEO reflects on his journey to transform healthcare through technology, prevention, and personalization #EndurePortfolio
Not many people know this, but I started working on what eventually became Numan back in 2013. The idea was to create a new experience around healthcare, in a unified platform that would bring together access to clinicians, medication, diagnostics and behavioural change tools. We would build a deep understanding of your current health, and offer a beautiful, personalised and precise journey that spanned prevention and cure. By helping you address problems now, and prevent future issues we would be your partner for a happier, healthier, longer and more fulfilling life. Of course, as any self-respecting founder, the first thing I did was go buy a bunch of domains to start building on. I went for “weoptimal.com” “meoptimal.com” and “youoptimal.com”. In the end I didn’t go very far with the idea as I believed the market wasn’t quite there at the time: the best way to deliver it would be via a bricks and mortar clinic, and the relevant audience was very small at the time. However, the domains remain as evidence that I’ve been working on this “stuff” for a while. The core vision has been at the heart of building Numan since the start, and many of the fundamental decisions we’ve made over the last 6.5 years have been guided by that. It’s now 2025 and that glimmer of an idea is becoming a reality, with a few catalysts helping us get here faster. Covid forced novel diagnostics to the mainstream and accelerated telehealth adoption; GLP-1s are changing prevention and obesity care, and finally generative AI holds huge promise when it comes to insights and patient engagement. In 2026 the way we experience healthcare as patients, and clinicians, will have been radically transformed through the adoption of agents that understand you as an individual, offer actionable insights, and produce better health outcomes. Prevention will be a lot more meaningful and clearly evidenced to lead to healthspan improvement. And because a lot of the heavy lifting will be done by software collaborating with humans, the cost of delivering high quality health will drastically come down making it accessible to many more amongst us. So applying AI in healthcare is something we’ve been investing in for a while. We currently have a large cohort of patients in the closed beta of our health assistant, and for the first, we shared our current thinking and model in the article below. We’re moving cautiously as it’s vital that we don’t compromise on quality and safety in our space. We’ve been careful with the tools we’ve built, apply close human supervision, and experiment a lot in the UX to get it where it needs to be.
