This session will introduce you to ELAN's basic features and how to use it. ?? NOTE: The session will include hands-on practice! If you'd like to join in, download and install ELAN before the session. It is free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux at: https://lnkd.in/gjwUcUUk See you Friday! Friday - join us to learn a bit about sociolinguistic documentation, or documenting the fascinating relationships between language and social structures! Language is a central part of how people understand each other, build relationships, and express their social identities. Any good record of a language should also include records of how people use language in their social worlds - but sociolinguistic questions are often ignored or overlooked in language documentation. This week we'll discuss topics like multilingualism, documenting different dialects or varieties of your language, looking at differences in how individual people in your community talk, and more. ? ? ????? Note the time zone change! If you're in the US, Canada, or Mexico, 2:30 pm Hawai?i is now one hour earlier - be sure to check your time zone against Hawai?i time. ? Register at: https://lnkd.in/ggpUkv8w ! If you’ve already registered, you can use the same Zoom link as last week. ? ? Can’t attend the live sessions? No problem! You can watch all the recordings on ELP’s YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/g75Svuk8? #LanguageDocumentation #IndigenousLanguages #Sociolinguistics #Languages #Linguistics

The film "KNEECAP", about Irish-language rap group Kneecap, is now available to stream online - and it's full of lessons and inspiration for language champions around the world (packed in between the excellent jokes and hip-hop performances). In the latest ELP blog post, Language Revitalization Mentor Alexandra Philbin shares five lessons from the film about reclaiming, promoting, and fighting for the rights of Indigenous and minoritized languages - not just in Northern Ireland, but all around the world.
