Former principal, football coach and track coach in his community, Alger came to Encompass Health after a pelvic fracture, hamstring tear, and lumbar compression fracture. During his recovery, Alger was delighted to be cared for by former students who are now part of Encompass Health's team. As a former Oklahoma University football player, his hard work and determination led to significant progress. “I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Dorian Leonard became a patient at one of our hospitals following a motorcycle accident that resulted in a femur fracture and brain injury. When Dorian first arrived, he was unable to speak, eat or move. His parents, family and therapists were committed to his recovery with the goal of bringing him home. Little by little, Dorian began to grow stronger. He was soon able to take bites of food, move an arm and sit unsupported for a few seconds. Dorian fought through each challenge with a smile on his face. Dorian progressed to walking his victory laps around the gym, showering and dressing himself, eating full meals, talking and making friends with every employee and patient in the hospital. We are immensely proud of Dorian and feel blessed to be part of his journey. Thank you, Dorian, for trusting Encompass Health with your care!

John was admitted to Encompass Health Gadsden after a stroke left him unable to move. In therapy, he improved his balance and learned several strategies to become more independent.
