Last week, I had the honor of speaking at the University of Denver - Daniels College of Business's Executive MBA Graduation for Cohort 81. I was invited to highlight the power of the EMBA network and alumni, sharing personal anecdotes about its impact on me over the past five years. It was especially meaningful to see industry colleagues graduating in this cohort and to witness a fellow colleague, Sarah Sandberg, delivering the keynote address. A standout moment was having my kids in the audience, watching their mom speak about the importance of a strong business leadership network, community stewardship, and giving back. Target Zero: Striving for a Safer Tomorrow Target Zero represents a steadfast commitment to ensuring safety as the top priority in every workplace. It is not just a slogan but a comprehensive philosophy that prioritizes the health and well-being of every individual. Safety forms the foundation of productivity and success, and creating an environment where accidents are not just minimized but entirely eliminated is the ultimate goal. As we step into 2025, it is crucial to maintain safety as our number one priority. One pivotal aspect of Target Zero is encouraging and acting on near-miss submissions. Near-miss reporting serves as an early warning system, highlighting potential hazards before they result in harm. Encompass employees are strongly urged to report any unsafe conditions or near accidents promptly. This proactive approach enables the company to identify patterns, address risks, and implement preventative measures, transforming potential incidents into valuable learning opportunities. Every near miss matters because addressing it can prevent something worse from happening. Following the daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA), completing annual safety training, listening to and learning from others' near-miss experiences, and maintaining a clear head while working are essential practices to ensure a safe 2025.
