When is PTFE Membrane the ideal choice for your building project? Whether designing for extreme climates or looking to make a bold architectural statement, PTFE membrane offers an unparalleled combination of performance, aesthetics, and sustainability. Known for its durability, this woven fiberglass membrane is perfect for projects that demand flexibility and longevity. With a life expectancy of over 25 years, PTFE stands up to harsh weather, UV radiation, and even chemical exposure. Plus, it’s self-cleaning—rainwater washes debris away, keeping the structure pristine. From solid to mesh systems, PTFE’s versatility enhances energy efficiency, light transmission, and shading control, making it an excellent choice for high-performance building envelopes. We’re thrilled to see Ben Johns in action during this year’s biannual roof inspection at BC Place Stadium—a project we’re proud to support through our service and maintenance offerings. The retractable roof is a one-of-a-kind engineering marvel. As the largest cable-supported fabric roof in the world, it’s designed to handle Vancouver’s unique climate while providing incredible event versatility. It transitions from fully covered to open-air in just 20 minutes, enhancing the stadium’s adaptability for sports, concerts, and exhibitions. This year’s scope included: ???Retractable Roof Inspection: Membrane, belts, and connecting hardware ???Fixed Roof Inspection: Outer membrane assessment ETS works closely with our partners, like Ben and PFEIFER Group, to ensure these iconic structures are not only built to last but maintained to perform at their best year-round. Curious about our service and maintenance capabilities? Let’s connect!
Just finished my annual job on BC Place for Enclos Tensile Structures . The retractable roof over BC Place is truly a technological marvel. The cable-supported fabric roof is the largest of its kind in the world - designed and engineered specifically for Vancouver’s climate. This time around we performed a first. We remotely opened it from Europe... and it worked perfectly.

Five years ago, ETS brought to life the breathtaking ETFE canopies of the ATLNext Central Passenger Terminal Complex at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. As the largest ETFE cushion application in North America, these 874-foot-long canopies span an impressive 345,500 square feet, sheltering eight lanes of traffic, bus lanes, and stations below. The canopies are not only a structural feat—crafted with 3,500 tons of steel—but a visual marvel, showcasing dynamic light shows with thousands of computer-controlled LEDs that illuminate the terminal in ever-changing hues. When is ETFE Film the ideal material for your building project? This lightweight, transparent film offers unparalleled design flexibility while delivering impressive performance and sustainability benefits. Whether you want to minimize the building envelope’s weight on a long-span structure or create large expanses of solar-controlled transparency, ETFE Film is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications. Its ability to transmit up to 95% of light and its thermal insulation properties when deployed as a multi-layer assembly makes ETFE a go-to for projects requiring natural daylighting and energy efficiency. Its self-cleaning surface and durability ensure low maintenance and long-term performance—lasting over 30 years. From single-layer membranes to multi-layered pneumatic cushions, ETFE provides structural stability with minimal weight—just 1% of the weight of glass! It’s also recyclable, flame-resistant, and offers creative opportunities like customizable printing for solar control or aesthetics. ETFE is perfect for projects where transparency, ambitious structural spans, performance, and sustainability intersect. Visit our website to learn more about our projects featuring ETFE, or contact us to explore how we can incorporate it into your next design. https://lnkd.in/e4nk7wGR

The key to turning an architectural vision into a buildable reality? Early collaboration through ETS’s Design-Assist service. By joining a project from the outset, our team works closely with architects and engineers to conduct feasibility analyses that ensure the design is not only technically sound but also commercially viable. As Thomas Wuerch, ETS President, puts it: “What we bring is certainty… making their dream both technically and commercially feasible.” From optimizing geometry to value engineering materials, our design-assist process ensures that your tensile structure is functional, beautiful, and on-budget. See the impact for yourself in these iconic projects we helped shape from the very beginning. Visit our website to learn more about our design-assist services: https://lnkd.in/ekQBYnS2

Want better project outcomes? Bring ETS onboard early with Design-Assist. As Ian Wright, P.E., our VP of Design Engineering, says: “The earlier we can be brought in to help guide the geometry, the better…” By starting in the concept phase, we help clients optimize their designs, saving time and costs in the long run. Bill Schmidt adds, “When we’re brought in early, we can really optimize the design… leading to savings in steel weight and a more efficient structure overall.” Watch the video to see how early collaboration sets the stage for success, from design to installation.
