关于我们
Empowering Care Partners provides training and support to those who are living with dementia as well as those who are providing their care. Providing care to someone living with dementia may get a job done, but it fails to see the person as a whole person. We advocate for providing care with those living with dementia. This may be a small word shift, but it is an important distinction that takes into account the values and preferences of the person for whom we are caring. We want to empower people to partner with those living with dementia to provide care so that everyone can have a positive and fulfilling experience.

As part of Music Therapy Awareness Month, we want to share about the impact of music on the brain. Dementia impacts many areas of the brain, but certain parts often remain unaffected until late in the disease process. Music is a great way to engage those parts of the brain. As part of Music Therapy Awareness Month, we want to share about the impact of music on the brain. Sugaya reported “Usually in the late stages, Alzheimer’s patients are unresponsive. But once you put in the headphones that play [their favorite] music, their eyes light up. They start moving and sometimes singing. The effect lasts maybe 10 minutes or so even after you turn off the music." Music, especially familiar music, awakens many parts of the brain and can have a wide range of positive effects. The next few days, we will explore a few areas of the brain that "light up" when listening to music. Empowering Care Partners CARE with Compassion, Acceptance, Reliability, and Education.
