Working with engaged companies, foundations, and humans to remove systemic barriers so that trafficking survivors can achieve economic freedom.
Trafficking looks a million different ways, but rarely how it's portrayed in the media. Yes, some victims are handcuffed to a bed, but, far more often, needs we all have—like the need for connection, food, a place to sleep—are weaponized and exploited. 13—that’s the average age girls are sex-trafficked in the United States. Imagine, at 13, someone burning your birth certificate and declaring they owned you. It would feel like a fact. Most cities have crisis support for those who do get out, but systemic barriers remain, leaving many survivors in the system their entire lives. Society is putting a ceiling over their innate potential. It’s not okay. It’s also the most expensive way to not solve a problem. Empowered Network (formerly Empower Her Network) supports survivors beyond the crisis, tackling remaining societal barriers so that they can become their own solution. If you're interested in engaging, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Women's Philanthropy at Indiana University announced October 11th as Give to Women and Girls Day to raise awareness of the funding gap for women's and girls' nonprofits, which accounts for only 1.9% of total giving. When trafficking survivors achieve financial independence, they are much better positioned to protect their children, ending generational cycles of exploitation and poverty. Be a part of the solution: https://lnkd.in/ejJqQ9SP
