Do you remember the scene from Ted Lasso where he has a bet going with Ruppert in a game of darts? Ruppert assumed Ted must be bad at it because he doesn’t know much about football(soccer). Ted talks about seeing a quote from Walt Whitman “Be curious, not judgemental” as he explains that if Ruppert had been curious, he would have asked “Have you played a lot of darts, Ted?” And he would have told him he played darts every week with his dad growing up- then proceeds to hit the bullseye. This week as we hopscotch across the city we’re talking to schools about feedback- the curious kind and judgmental kind. How do you find the words for CURIOUS oriented feedback? How do we set up peer support programs for educators that ensure everyone has a peer they trust, ? One who will be curious, not judgemental. We truly believe creating environments of trust and peer support is transformational for our schools.

Today was the start of something special. EmpowerEd organized a first of its kind training for educator mentors across five DC partner schools who will pioneer a new model of peer to peer educator mentoring. It is a special group of veteran educators ready to support their colleagues and build staff culture- and we supported them by building their skills and toolbox with sessions from our amazing partners and friends at MedStar WISE, SchoolTalk, Inc and Wendt Center for Loss and Healing. So excited to see what they all accomplish
