Employ Prince George's serves as the Staff and Fiscal Agent of the Prince George's County Local Workforce Development Board. As the Staff and Fiscal Agent of the Local Workforce Development Board, Employ Prince George's is responsible for regulating policy development and the administration of workforce activities related to services and programs funded by the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA). Under the leadership of Employ Prince George's, the Prince George's County Local Workforce Development Area serves over 30,000 job seekers and 4,000 businesses annually. Employ Prince George's is Prince George's County's link between job seekers looking to begin or change careers, and businesses looking for skilled workers to maintain competitiveness in a changing labor market.

Earlier this week, Employ Prince George’s Community Development Team had the privilege of attending the Community Healing and Justice Townhall Meeting at the stunning Creative Suitland Arts Center in Suitland, MD. This impactful event, sponsored by District 7 Council Member Krystal Oriadha, Life After Release, and The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), and moderated by Jade Mathis, Esq., provided a vital platform for the esteemed panel and community members to discuss advocacy for compassionate, culturally sensitive, and community-based mental health care in Prince George’s County. A key focus was the state of mental health services for incarcerated individuals and the critical need to ensure they receive proper support as they transition back into the community. Employ Prince George’s was honored to share information about our industry bridge and demographic programs. This evening, Employ Prince George’s partnered with the Prince George's County Government, MD - Office of Human Resources Management to connect Prince George’s County residents with government job opportunities at the Bilingual Latino Pathways to Government Information Session. The session began with inspiring remarks from our Chief of Staff, Jeffrey Swilley, who emphasized the importance of creating equitable pathways to employment for all residents, and from Prince George’s County Latino Affairs Liaison, Samantha Howard who highlighted the county’s ongoing efforts to support and uplift the Hispanic/Latino community. Following the opening remarks, an informative overview of the Pathways to Government Initiative was provided by our Manager, Career Services, Mariam Adams and with interpretation provided by our Director, Talent Acquisition, Claudia Marin. They outlined the program’s mission to guide residents toward rewarding careers. We were honored to have distinguished guest speakers, Stephen Liggett-Creel, Director of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services (DSS), and Krystal Barrientos, Senior HR Business Partner at the Department of Parks and Recreation within the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Their insightful presentations shed light on leadership in government, the importance of community-focused careers, and practical advice on navigating opportunities within government agencies. Their expertise and shared experiences provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the value of public service and actionable steps for career advancement. The Apprenticeship Innovation Program's Apprenticeship Carnival of Opportunities kicked off with a bang, drawing in over 120 excited attendees within the first hour, making it a huge success. Participants had a great time connecting with a variety of programs and chatting with sponsors who are all about fostering apprenticeships. A special highlight was the presence of Jeffrey Smith, Workforce Liaison/Program Analyst from the U.S. Department of Labor, the carnival’s National Apprenticeship Week guest speaker, who shared invaluable insights on current workforce trends and the significance of apprenticeships. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our partner, the IUPAT DC7 Painters and Allied Trades, for their unwavering support in contributing to the success of the Carnival and their shared vision of shaping a bright future for the residents of Prince George’s County. In honor of National Apprenticeship Week (November 17-23), Employ Prince George’s Apprenticeship Innovation Program has been shining a spotlight on the invaluable apprenticeship programs in our community throughout the entire month. Enthusiastic jobseekers seized the chance to engage in a series of events, uncovering exciting opportunities in Registered Apprenticeships and Pre-Apprenticeships. These events showcased success stories, fostering connections between local businesses and potential apprentices. At the recent Apprenticeship 101: Step Right Up to Your Future Information Session, our Director of Talent Acquisition, Claudia Marin, led an engaging session. Drawing a diverse group of attendees, including dozens of virtual participants, the session offered a rewarding experience for all. Participants immersed themselves in the realm of apprenticeships, unearthing hidden opportunities and gaining valuable insights for their career journeys. Thanks to the resume tips shared by Learning and Development Coordinator Martin Copeland, attendees left equipped to conquer the job market. In our following series, the Apprenticeship Interviews session, participants discovered how to effectively showcase their skills and experiences. Under the expert guidance of Martin Copeland, attendees received crucial resume tips to stand out in the competitive job market. On November 18, our Outreach and Operations Specialist, Lawrence Barbour, had the privilege of representing Employ Prince George’s at the Prince George’s County Fall Reentry Resource Fair in Landover, MD. This impactful event brought together the Returning Citizens Affairs Department (RCAD), Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services, Delegate Kym Taylor (District 23), and a variety of other community partners and vendors to provide essential resources and support for returning citizens. The event served as a vital hub for connecting individuals reentering society with services such as employment opportunities, housing assistance, mental health resources, and more. Lawrence and a few other EPG team members shared information about Employ Prince George’s workforce development programs, including tailored initiatives like Pathways to Success, which are designed to empower returning citizens with the skills and resources needed to secure sustainable employment and rebuild their lives.
