Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) FLORIDA Committee

A huge shoutout to the incredible team from the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for their unwavering support of National Guard and Reserve members! Thanks to the dedication of Director Stephanie Daniels, Chief Scientific Officer Stephanie Stoiloff, Deputy Director Christopher Carothers, and Captain Christopher Wallace, Lt. Nubia Azrak is able to serve both her community and her country with ease and pride. Azrak is a member of MDPD’s Crime Scene and Evidence Bureau and serves as Petty Officer with the Coast Guard Investigative Service. At a special ceremony, the MDPD leadership were honored with the Department of Defense Patriot Award for going above and beyond in supporting military obligations, creating a culture of understanding, flexibility, and gratitude for reservists. Roger Trout, Florida ESGR Volunteer and Chair Emeritus, presented the Florida ESGR story and objectives to attendees during the Association of the United States Army AUSA Suncoast Chapter Luncheon on Nov. 5 in Tampa. Roger spoke about employer outreach, military outreach, and ombudsman efforts. Marilyn Westropp, AUSA Suncoast Chapter President, is pictured with Roger.

Exciting news! Peter Caspari, Florida ESGR Volunteer and Director Employer Outreach, recently reconnected with the HR Association of Broward County (HRABC). Dr. Priscilla Torres, Ed.D., M.S., Chapter President, reached out to ESGR to re-energize efforts and rebuild the partnership. Pier Fuxa Giorgio, Wrist Aficionado Store Manager, Miami Beach, received the Department of Defense Patriot Award during a recent presentation. Marcelin Zephir, who works at Wrist Aficionado and serves as a Petty Officer Second Class in the U.S. Navy Reserve, nominated the store owner, William Kakon, and the management team for the recognition. The Wrist Aficionado has been very supportive of Zephir’s military service and even encourage him to train with the Navy Reserve at every opportunity. They also check on his family’s well-being whenever he’s away for military training or duty. Mike Mills, Florida ESGR Volunteer, presented the award at the Wrist Aficionado’s location inside the The Setai Hotel, Miami Beach.

Julie Hess, Chief Operating Officer at AdventHealth Heart of Florida, Davenport, Florida, and Glen Knobel, Vice President, Florida Group at Hospital Housekeeping Systems (HHS), Pompano Beach, Florida, both received the Department of Defense Patriot Award for their support of National Guard and Reserve members who are employed by the organization. Jason Rivera Bravo, who is the Environmental Services Director at AdventHealth Heart of Florida and a Staff Sergeant in the Florida Army National Guard, nominated Hess and Knobel for the recognition. “Julie’s patience, understanding and genuine care for me and my family’s wellbeing, as well as my safety, have been evident at every turn," said Rivera Bravo. "Julie embodies the values of compassion and leadership, and her actions have had a profound impact on my life.” Rivera Bravo added, “My Vice President, Glen Knobel, is deserving of a recognition award in acknowledgement of his exceptional support during my Army Florida National Guard duty,” said Rivera Bravo. “Glen’s unwavering patience, understanding, and genuine care for me, my family and my safety, have been truly remarkable.” Roger Trout, ESGR Volunteer and Chair Emeritus, presented the awards during the ceremony. Rodney Sanchez and Luis Silva from Allied Universal in Maitland, Florida, both received the Department of Defense Patriot Award for their support of the Guard and Reserve members who work for the organization. Hector Marquez, Allied Universal employee and a First Lieutenant in the Florida Army National Guard, nominated Sanchez the recognition.?“Mr. Sanchez does his best to take care of his employees,” said Marquez. “In addition to the many supportive things he does for my family and me, he is very supportive of my National Guard responsibilities.” Marquez also nominated Silva for his support.?“Luis is a great Allied employee and has helped me grow and encourages me in my National Guard responsibilities.” said Marquez. Silva also signed a Statement of Support on behalf of Allied Universal. By signing the statement, Allied Universal affirmed their continued commitment to advocate and support employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. They join a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, state, and federal agencies across the Nation that demonstrates official support for the military.
