Read stories. Build empathy. Make a better world.

关于我们

EmpathyLab is a social enterprise on a mission to raise an empathy-educated generation, and build a better world for everyone. EmpathyLab is the first organisation to build children's empathy, literacy and social activism through a systematic use of high-quality literature. Our strategy builds on new scientific evidence showing the power of reading to build real-life empathy skills. We believe that empathy is a beacon of hope in a divided world. What do we do? Our strategy builds on the latest scientific evidence showing the power of reading to build real-life empathy skills through 4 key programmes: - Empathy Day is now established as a national day with mass support from children's authors, publishers, library services and schools. Empathy Day 2024 is on 6 June. Empathy Action Month, a month devoted to social action, is held every November and is a chance to revisit the Resolutions made on Empathy Day. - Our Schools Programme continues to make an impact across the country, as shown in our evaluation reports. - Our annual Read for Empathy Guides, with associated book collections chosen by an expert panel. The 2024 book collection launches in February - We work with an ever growing army of authors and illustrators who are helping us spread the empathy message.

Read for Empathy Judges required EmpathyLab are seeking two additional judges to join our expert panel to select the 2026 Read for Empathy Collection. Our panel includes teachers ,public librarians, school librarians, booksellers and academics. In 2026 we will be marking 10 years since the collection was launched. Each year publishers submit titles for consideration based on key empathy criteria (https://lnkd.in/dT3jJf96) and it is the panel’s responsibility to choose the titles in two age categories 3-11, 12-16. (Judges are assigned to either the 3-11 or 12-16 category). We are very committed to creating diverse and inclusive collections that build children and young people’s empathy. Therefore we are seeking judges who have a passion for, and a deep understanding of, children’s books and reading, and who also represent diverse backgrounds, heritage and experience. Reading starts in May and continues through to the final selection meeting in November. You will receive the books by post and will be invited to attend an introductory meeting and two selection meetings, all of which are online. Ideally we would like you to commit to being a judge for at least two years so that we have a continuity of experience. This is a voluntary role, but we hope that it will also be a richly rewarding experience and an opportunity to help shape a significant book collection which is highly anticipated each year by schools and libraries. To apply please send an expression of interest on no more than 350 words to Lilly Broujerdi [email protected] by Wednesday April 9 and please indicate whether you would prefer to judge in the 3-11 or 12-16 category.
