We're all born with the ability to perceive feelings and emotions -- whether someone else's or your own -- also known as emotional intelligence (EQ). The key to cultivating your EQ: learn how to manage your emotions and improve your self-awareness, showing you can positively and readily observe, listen, and respond to your team and your leadership. Cultivate your EQ in these three ways: 1. Practice empathy: Leaders must be considerate and understand the challenges their team may be encountering, whether at work or home. When you offer positive support and resources to address these challenges, your team members will thrive. 2. Build resilience: Instead of dreading a new project or wondering if you will fail, change your way of thinking. Train yourself to think, "This is an opportunity for our team. How can we prepare, make the best decision we can with the information we have, and if we experience failure, what did we learn?" The reality: not everything always goes as planned, but that's OK, we are not perfect beings. In fact, many times, learning from our failures allows us to grow in ways we would never have before. 3. Learn for a lifetime: How are your communication skills? What about your team? We all have different communication styles -- maybe it's time to better adapt to them! Communication is a key aspect of honing your EQ -- consider signing up for a training session with your team to help improve EQs. Looking for training and coaching to enhance your/your team's EQ? You have a terrible feeling…the meeting you led didn’t go quite right, and the important decision participants needed to make didn’t happen. You feel like a failure – why couldn’t this issue be resolved as you had envisioned? Instead of ruminating about what happened, let’s talk about what failure really means and how you can recognize the difference between good and bad failure. Join us for Part II of our Global Leadership Summit (GLS) Follow-Up Session about this topic on Thursday, Nov. 14, 8:30 am., at our empac offices. Identify the three archetypes of failure, how to minimize unproductive failure, and how to maximize blunders of all kinds as you listen to Amy C. Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at the Harvard Business School. Empac CEO Stacey Winter, MS, LCMFT, will facilitate this session -- RSVP to her today and learn how you can better understand and manage failure. WOW! We are so humbled and honored to share that the Wichita Business Journal has named empac as one of 2024's Best Places to Work (BPTW)! It's been our pleasure to serve our community and help create healthy organizations and thriving communities. And it's all because we have a dedicated and hard-working team, leadership, and board. We were also excited for our BPTW T-shirt design to be chosen as the most favorite via a general public vote. In this company spirit award, ten companies participated, and online voting took place over two weeks. In third place was Kansas Leadership Center, in second was Lange, and the big winner was us -- empac! Thank you, Wichita Business Journal -- we are grateful for the tremendous recognition! Why don’t they just leave? All too often, that is the response when we learn someone is in a domestic violence relationship. It's simply not that easy. If it were, domestic violence wouldn’t affect millions of people globally. When we think of domestic violence, we think of pushing, hitting, kicking—physical actions bringing harm to another person. Domestic violence is physical abuse, but it is also emotional abuse, financial abuse, psychological abuse, and sexual abuse. It’s important to understand that leaving an abusive relationship is often far more difficult than it appears from the outside. Learn more about domestic violence in our latest blog by EAP Intern and law enforcement officer Deanna Mowery, MS.
