Thrilled to have hosted Professor Bruce Hansen (University of Wisconsin-Madison) at Emory University! Our departmental seminar series in Econometrics, Microeconomic Theory, Applied Microeconomic, and Macroeconomic continue to bring together leading experts in these fields, fostering enriching discussions and knowledge exchanges.
What do you do when Prof. Bruce Hansen accepts your invitation to come to Emory to give a seminar?! You mix Bruce Hansen, Essie Maasoumi, Nikolay Gospodinov, and Juan Rubio Ramirez all in the same room, add some graduate students, and just have fun for a couple of hours talking about econometrics, time series, and the job market. Of course, do not forget to sprinkle a mini book signing event on top... What a fun day! Emory University Department of Economics

It was a great privilege to participate as a panelist in the Cafecito Series event, "Somos Emory: Leadership & Community," alongside José Rodriguez and Theresa Milazzo. This engaging discussion explored the journeys of Latinx leaders, the influence of cultural identity on leadership, and the importance of mentorship and community advocacy. Sharing my experiences and insights was truly rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a conversation that highlights the resilience and contributions of the Latinx community in the Emory College of Arts and Sciences and the Emory University Laney Graduate School at Emory University and beyond. Thanks to Judy De La Cruz, MS for moderating this conversation.

Please meet Tianhao Zhao, one of our Emory University Laney Graduate School, Emory University Ph.D. candidates on the job market this year. Tianhao’s research explores the pronounced non-linearity in the heterogeneous effects of net worth shocks across U.S. counties. His study focuses on the interaction between local collateral constraints and downward nominal wage rigidity (DNWR), demonstrating these mechanisms within a tractable two-agent general equilibrium model. Empirical estimates reveal significant impacts on local consumption, unemployment, and house prices using the newly compiled CountyPlus dataset. We would like to introduce Pablo Estrada, one of our Emory University Laney Graduate School & Emory University Ph.D. candidates on the job market this year. Pablo’s research focuses on Network Interference, Causal Inference, and Applied Econometrics. His job market paper, “Spillover Effects with Nonrandom Sample Selection,” presents a novel method to estimate spillover effects of a random treatment using a nonrandom sample of individuals with observable outcomes. This approach leverages an exposure monotonicity assumption to bound spillover effects, accounting for network dependence, and incorporates high-dimensional covariates through machine learning to tighten the bounds. Please meet Katie Leinenbach, one of our Emory University Laney Graduate School, Emory University Ph.D. candidates on the job market this year. Katie’s research explores the impact of marijuana legalization on the health and labor market outcomes of older adults. Her findings indicate that legalization generally leads to improved health and employment outcomes for this demographic, enhancing their healthcare autonomy and control over employment. We are happy to introduce you to Hanna Glenn, one of our Emory University Laney Graduate School, Emory University Ph.D. candidates on the job market this year. Her research explores the impact of hospital leadership on quality improvement in response to incentive changes. Her research reveals that hospitals led by non-clinically trained executives show greater improvements in quality compared to those led by clinically trained executives in this setting. ?? "50 under 50" I'm happy to share that although I'm yet to turn 50 years old, my 50th peer-reviewed article with my current and former doctoral advisees Pablo Estrada and Juan Estrada respectively, and long-term co-authors Kim Huynh and Leonardo Sánchez-Aragón is forthcoming in The Stata Journal. It utilizes Stata's Python integration to estimate peer effects generated by endogenous connections utilizing knowledge of exogenous ones. Check it out ?? https://lnkd.in/eFkgs9xe.
