"We're moving into the 'Valley of the Shadow of Death' - where you will watch the back of the man next to you, as he will watch yours. And you won't care what color he is or by what name he calls God." - We Were Soldiers From age, race, creed, and many other criteria, this might be the most diverse cohort Emory University has ever seen. But the one the thing that binds them all, what they all have in common? They are all veterans. The amount of rapport, camaraderie, and friendship that has been gained over our first weekend together is nothing short of legendary. The true magic of MBV is the cohort. It is a shared common story, an understanding, that helps make an almost immediate connection - that changes lives. This is not fiction, this is what is happening on campus at Emory University - Goizueta Business School. This past week has been a whirlwind for the veteran community at Emory University - Goizueta Business School with many events leading up to and celebrating Veterans Day. Kicking off last Tuesday with another Ranger for Life Symposium facilitated by the Three Rangers Foundation at the National Infantry Museum Foundation, where Ranger veteran Andrew Nelson and MBV program staff engaged with current Rangers on how a graduate business degree can help them in their military transition. This served as a warmup to the "Salute to Service: A Veteran Preview Event", where over two days prospective students visited campus to see if Goizueta is a good fit for their lives and the goals they wish to achieve. They were welcomed with open arms by the Goizueta community on Thursday with KEGS facilitated by the veterans club and then a dinner at Double Zero followed by a late night event at Fadó Irish Pub Midtown. After the late night, prospective students enjoyed a full day of programming, receiving presentations on all programs and resources available to them from Melissa Rapp, Ed.D., Allison Hill, Cassy York, Sissy Bennett, Brian Mitchell, and Lorenzo Suarez. They joined Omar Rodríguez-Vilá, PhD's MBV marketing class, experiencing academics firsthand by collaborating with current students on a simulation in a breakout session. Afterwards, they enjoyed lunch with MBV students, fostering candid interactions and organic connections. Prior to the final AAR, prospective students engaged with a community panel consisting of current students and alumni (Coogan Perrin, Josh Leonard, Kory Fogarty, Derrick Luzolo, Garrett Jones, Lynwood Rabon, LaShawn Charles) who stressed how powerful the Goizueta veteran network is and how it has impacted their lives. The Salute to Service events culminated with a fireside chat featuring Kyle E., a PM at Google and founder of Sitreps 2 Steercos, who shared current and future trends in military transition, insights on how to leverage social media, and deconstructed the meme creation process. Over lunch on Saturday, MBV Cohort I celebrated the 249th United States Marine Corps birthday with the traditional cake cutting ceremony and singing of the USMC song. Veterans Day itself was celebrated on the quad with its 16th annual ceremony with this year's keynote speaker being Vonetta Daniels, MHA, MBA, PMP who is the president of Emory Alumni Veterans Network. Additionally, the MBV program was highlighted during a "Future of Leadership" event where LTG(R) Ken Keen and MBV Cohort I student Victoria Johnson shared how powerful a veterans experience can be when combined with an education from Emory. **Thank you to everyone who worked so hard in making all of these events possible, especially Heather Holland, Shenita Bryant, Hollie Huddleston. > FLY HIGHER **COHORT II ROUND TWO ENDS 1/15** Register for an event: https://lnkd.in/gPrXSnFG Request more information: https://lnkd.in/e_VC26AF
