?? Court Blocks OSC and MSPB Dismissals, Pauses Some Federal Terminations ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, A federal court has temporarily halted the Trump administration’s efforts to remove key oversight officials and dismiss certain federal employees. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued a permanent injunction preventing the firing of Hampton Dellinger, head of the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), ruling that the President lacks the authority to remove the position without cause. Similarly, Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) Chair Cathy Harris was reinstated following a temporary restraining order while legal proceedings continue regarding her removal. Additionally, the MSPB has paused the termination of six probationary employees for 45 days to allow the OSC to investigate potential prohibited personnel practices. These legal interventions highlight ongoing tensions surrounding federal workforce policies and employee protections under the current administration. Read more about this development here: https://lnkd.in/eD_t_7Pf Let’s stay informed about how these rulings may shape the future of federal workforce oversight and employee rights. #FederalWorkforce #LegalUpdate #OSC #MSPB #TrumpAdministration #EmployeeProtections

?? Veterans and Top Performers Among Those Let Go in DoD Layoffs ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, The Department of Defense (DoD) has initiated its first wave of federal workforce reductions, with reports revealing that many of those laid off include military veterans and high-performing employees. Despite assurances that the layoffs would target non-essential or underperforming personnel, internal sources indicate that the criteria applied during the reduction-in-force (RIF) process have resulted in the loss of valuable institutional knowledge. Some of those dismissed were award recipients and had no documented performance issues. Concerns are growing among lawmakers and advocacy groups that the selection process may have overlooked critical mission support needs. These developments raise broader questions about how performance metrics and service history are factored into government restructuring plans. Read more about this development here: https://lnkd.in/eDHvGC95 Let’s stay informed about how these decisions are shaping workforce morale and the capacity of federal agencies to retain experienced public servants. #DoD #FederalWorkforce #Veterans #RIF #GovernmentLayoffs #PublicService

?? GSA Considers Contracting Takeover Amid Federal Reorganization ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, The General Services Administration (GSA) is evaluating whether to take over contracting responsibilities from other federal agencies as part of its larger internal reorganization strategy. This shift comes as the agency faces early retirements, layoffs, and efforts to consolidate operations, particularly in IT and human resources. GSA officials say the potential consolidation of procurement duties could streamline federal acquisition efforts, reduce redundancies, and help agencies refocus on core missions. While details remain under review, this move reflects broader trends of centralizing shared services and redefining the federal workforce’s structure to align with cost-saving goals. ?? Republicans Advance Government Funding Bill Amid Democratic Opposition ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, As the March 14 government shutdown deadline approaches, House Republicans are advancing a funding bill to finance federal agencies through September. The bill proposes cuts to non-defense expenditures, increases in defense spending, and maintains overall spending levels close to $1.7 trillion. However, Democrats oppose the bill, arguing it grants the Trump administration excessive discretionary power and threatens funding for critical areas like healthcare and veterans' benefits. apnews.com House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is urging Democratic members to oppose the stopgap spending bill, increasing the likelihood of a government shutdown. Jeffries positions his party to defend the federal bureaucracy, which Democrats believe is under assault from President Trump and Elon Musk. The political dynamics are further complicated by President Trump's call for a primary challenge against Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) due to his opposition to the continuing resolution designed to avert a government shutdown. Massie argues the measure fails to address government spending issues and vows to vote against it. ?? GSA Offers Voluntary Early Retirements Amid Widespread Federal Layoffs ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, The General Services Administration (GSA) is offering Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA) incentives to eligible employees as part of its response to ongoing government-wide workforce reductions. While GSA has not announced formal reduction-in-force (RIF) notices, the agency confirmed that layoffs are occurring, particularly in IT, human resources, and customer experience divisions. The voluntary retirement offer follows a broader trend of federal agencies seeking to downsize and restructure. Officials indicate that the program is intended to avoid further involuntary separations by encouraging eligible staff to retire early. This marks a significant development for one of the government’s central management agencies, as it adapts to changing priorities under the current administration. ?? Trump Administration Prepares for Next Wave of Federal Workforce Reductions ?? Greetings, Eminent Community, The Trump administration is moving forward with a new phase of federal workforce reductions, now targeting senior employees. Agencies have been directed to submit reduction-in-force (RIF) and reorganization plans to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) by March 13, 2025, as part of efforts to streamline operations, eliminate non-essential functions, and consolidate management layers. Several agencies have already begun implementing layoffs. The Department of Education has offered $25,000 buyouts, while HUD, GSA, and OPM have issued RIF notices to affected staff in various divisions. The Environmental Protection Agency is also undergoing a significant staff reduction, with a 65% cut announced, though agency leadership states this pertains to cost-saving measures. Additionally, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, is working to automate and expedite the RIF process through updated AutoRIF software. ??? If You Held Out for a RIF Rather Than Taking the Fork in the Road, You May Have an Extra Layer of Protection ??? Greetings, Eminent Community, Federal employees facing workforce reductions may find added protections if they opted to wait for a Reduction in Force (RIF) rather than voluntarily departing. This shift in workforce policy could have major implications for job security and federal employment rights.
