EMH&T recently joined The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Allen County for the official ribbon cutting event of the Baughman Wetland Project. This project is part of H2Ohio, which is a comprehensive water quality initiative that is working to strategically address serious water issues that have been building in Ohio for decades. EMH&T served as a design consultant for the improvements, which include planting native vegetation, stormwater detention basins, and the creation of 3 main wetlands areas. These improvements will help reduce area flooding that has affected surrounding roads, neighborhoods, and commercial property over the past 30 years.
?? Another H2Ohio Dream Comes True ?? ? The H2Ohio restoration project at the Baughman wetland in Lima has been completed! The project restored 19 acres of wetlands, which will filter sediment and nutrients from the water before it flows into the Maumee River Watershed. ?? The newly completed wetland will also address significant flooding issues that previously impacted nearby neighborhoods. Reducing nutrient and sediment loads in the Maumee River Watershed is critical to addressing harmful algal blooms in the Western Lake Erie Basin.

EMH&T is excited to celebrate Stormwater Awareness Week, the statewide effort to raise awareness of how rain water moves through infrastructure and our environment. At EMH&T, stormwater plays a pivotal role in much of the infrastructure we design. We make it a top priority and take great pride designing infrastructure to minimize the effects stormwater may have on our waterways, structures, and the community as a whole to help protect our environment.

The awards recognize “honorees [who] exemplify the spirit of the Building Columbus Awards by contributing to the betterment of the community with new housing, offices, retail spaces, healthcare facilities and more.” The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Abigail Wexner Research Institute, Building 4 and OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital projects and teams were recognized for Best New Medical Project. It’s National Roundabout Week! EMH&T is proud to celebrate all things roundabouts, including the 93 roundabouts (and counting!) we’ve designed. Roundabouts are an important component to roadway design as they provide a safer choice for all modes of transportation, are a lower cost option to traditional traffic signals, provide less vehicular idling that leads to less pollution, and reduce traffic delays and stops up to 74%. As we celebrate roundabouts this week, remember: slow down, look around, be ready to yield. #RoundaboutsWeek
