关于我们

We believe that school doesn’t have to be boring; that if we challenge, excite, nurture, and engage the whole child, we can inspire a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Here, what’s best for children drives the curriculum—not tests. It’s where passionate educators are empowered to teach, and intimate classrooms are places of joy, exploration, and respect for one another. It’s where bright students learn to tap into their curiosity and search for answers, rather than memorize them. Emerson is a special environment where smart is cool, and classrooms are comprised of other gifted, unique peers who help and encourage each other to become their best. It’s where bright students thrive, and we encourage you to learn more about how our school might benefit your child.

Our 6th-grade students combined creativity, math, and sustainability in an exciting "Trashion" show! Students designed high-fashion outfits using discarded materials, impressing a panel of judges who scored based on creativity, material use, and catwalk presence. The experience gave students hands-on exposure to statistics as they tallied and ranked the scores! This is a great example of how Emerson students learn to think critically while positively impacting our planet.

Our 5th graders recently embarked on an exciting field trip to Lansing, where they explored Michigan’s rich history and gained a deeper understanding of how our state government operates! The students toured the beautiful Capitol Building, marveled at the intricate architecture, and learned about the important work happening within its walls. This hands-on experience brought their studies to life and sparked curiosity about civic engagement and the history that shapes our great state.

This year our 7th and 8th grade students are taking a year-long class on Speech and Communication. The first weeks of the new class have been a resounding success. We began the year by studying the beginnings of rhetoric with Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Students began learning about the rhetorical triangle–ethos, pathos, and logos and how it influences our lives. Next students did a modified high school forensics event, Storytelling. Several students volunteered to read their picture books to the lower grades, much to the younger students' delight.

At Emerson, one of the many benefits of being a Young Fives through 8th grade community is our Buddy Program. This program pairs younger students with older buddies, offering mentorship, friendship, and leadership opportunities. Last Friday, we kicked off our first Buddy Time of the school year with an ice cream social on the playground! The smiles, laughter, and connections between buddies filled the air, and we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather on our beautiful campus. Here's to many more moments of friendship, fun, and learning together!

Yesterday we celebrated our 31st Annual Latin Naming Ceremony, a timeless tradition that warmly welcomes students into our Latin World Languages program. Each new student is bestowed with a special Latin name, marking their entry into the rich and classical world of Latin studies. Dressed in togas, students embraced the spirit of this beloved event, which continues to be a favorite among Emerson's cherished traditions.

Last week, our community came together for a series of wonderful Moon Festival celebrations. Our lower-grade students had the honor of welcoming family visitors who shared their cultural traditions and rituals, offering a rich, hands-on learning experience. In the Middle School, students in the Chinese language program immersed themselves in the art of mooncake making—a delicious way to connect with culture and language!

Our 4th-6th grade students came together yesterday for the first Bridge Program activity of the year! This program helps build connections across grade levels, supporting our students as they prepare for middle school. Mixed-grade groups were given a stack of notecards and tasked with writing things they all have in common, focusing on shared experiences and interests. From there, they collaborated to build a tower using those cards—a fun and meaningful way to foster teamwork and a sense of belonging within our community.

This week our 8th grade students stepped into the shoes of archaeologists, using their creativity and critical thinking to unravel the mysteries of ancient Roman artifacts! Working with both real and replica items, they explored what these objects might have been used for, who they belonged to, and why they were placed in graves alongside loved ones. Through collaboration and imagination, our students brought history to life in this hands-on lesson.
