? This week, the Emergent team attended #AviationCarbon 2024, a leading industry event bringing together airlines, regulators, and carbon market stakeholders to explore the role of sustainable aviation fuels and #CarbonCredits in meeting aviation's #decarbonization goals, including compliance with #CORSIA. ?? With global aviation gearing up to meet CORSIA’s Phase 1 obligations starting in 2027, the demand for high-integrity carbon credits is rapidly growing. Emergent’s work with countries supplying Jurisdictional REDD+ (#JREDD) credits provides access to scalable, cost-effective #CarbonFinance solutions that meet airline #compliance and #sustainability needs. ???Our key takeaways from the event: - Demand is mobilizing:?The demand market for CORSIA is beginning to scale as airlines seek to secure supply volumes - JREDD is compelling:?Jurisdictional credits are a strong asset class for compliance due to high levels of political buy-in and protection against localized supply risks - Long-term partnerships matter:?Reliable partners are needed to secure CORSIA access for your future compliance needs - Simplification is key:?Efficient, streamlined solutions are needed to navigate CORSIA compliance with limited resources ???We are currently?working to build a pipeline of CORSIA eligible credits and expect to make further announcements in the coming months. The session focused on aligning global ambitions with practical strategies for a nature-positive future. ?? Regenerative Agriculture and Carbon in Latin America: Challenges and Opportunities for Climate Action: Emergent ’s Chief Partnerships Officer Sean Frisby contributed to a compelling discussion on scaling regenerative agriculture and carbon solutions in Latin America. This session emphasized integrating science, practice, and market-based mechanisms to tackle #ClimateChange while promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the region. Thanks to LEAF Coalition participant Bayer for organizing the event. ?? Nature on the Balance Sheet: Rocio Sanz Cortes, Emergent's Executive Vice President of Global Origination, joined an esteemed panel at the Japan Pavilion to discuss?how policy makers, business, and academia can work together to accelerate the pathway for resetting our economic system in harmony with nature. ?? Advancing High-Integrity #CarbonMarkets for climate, nature and people: The U.S. State Department, Emergent and the LEAF Coalition held a panel event at the U.S. Center Pavilion to mark Nature and Biodiversity, Indigenous People, Gender, Oceans and Coastal Zones Day. Against the backdrop of increasing global attention on the role of #forests in mitigating climate change, the panel brought together voices from across the sector including LEAF Coalition participants, Ecuadorian government representatives, Ecuadorian Afro-descendants and civil society. The session emphasized the urgent need to align climate finance mechanisms with social justice, equity, and inclusion for Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities (IP&LCs), and Afro-descendant groups. ?? New LEAF Call for Proposals: The LEAF Coalition also announced a new call for proposals, extending opportunities for forest governments to supply emissions reductions with corresponding adjustments for corporate compliance. This expansion strengthens the path toward nature-positive climate finance at scale. ?? Our second week in Baku showcased powerful collaborations driving solutions at the nexus of #climate, #nature, and community. As we look ahead to COP30 in Belém, our focus remains on scaling public-private finance to maximise impact for the protection of our forests, their biodiversity and the communities that depend on and protect them. #COP29 #CarbonMarkets #SustainableDevelopment

Brazil: Leading the Way in #ClimateAction on the Road to Belém ?? Last week, Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) announced a 30% reduction in Amazon deforestation in 2024 compared to 2023, despite significant challenges brought by unprecedented droughts and fires. This groundbreaking progress is a further demonstration of Brazil’s commitment to climate action - the same commitment that enabled the LEAF Coalition’s landmark deal with the state of Pará signed earlier this year at #ClimateWeekNYC. Read more about this progress here ?? https://lnkd.in/d-tGdyvK. ?? During a historic visit to Brazil’s #Amazon rainforest this week, U.S. President Biden highlighted the LEAF Coalition deal with Pará as a part of the United States’ efforts to support #climate resilience and #biodiversity in critical ecosystems like the Amazon and others around the world. Read the full White House briefing here ?? https://lnkd.in/g2NfJ2mV ??Discussing the transformative potential of the #LEAFCoalition's public-private model and the deal with Pará, Emergent’s CEO and Founder, Eron Bloomgarden features in this week’s episode S&P Global’s ESG Insider. The whole Emergent team was delighted to hear today that The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has approved the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) TREES methodology, making it one of first three standards for nature-based credits to be eligible for the Core Carbon Principles label. Welcoming the news, our CEO and Founder Eron Bloomgarden said: "Jurisdictional REDD+ programs set the standard for high-integrity carbon credits, and ICVCM’s decision is a powerful validation of their quality. We’ve already seen private sector leaders with bold climate goals committing to buy these credits through the #LEAFCoalition. This vote of confidence is poised to amplify demand, unlocking even more funding to empower forest nations in their fight against tropical?#deforestation." #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #JREDD
The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market has today announced the approval of three methodologies for issuing #HighIntegrity #CarbonCredits for reducing emissions from #deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD+).?? The approved methodologies are: ? (ART) The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES) v2.0, TREES Crediting Level ? (VCS) VM0048 Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation v1.0 ? (VCS) Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) Framework v4.1 ?? What does this mean for the #VoluntaryCarbonMarket? With the approved methodologies due to start issuing soon, REDD+ credits are expected to be tagged with the CCP? label from early 2025. While no credits have yet been issued under the approved methodologies, there is a large volume of credits in the pipeline. The methodologies were found to have rigorous approaches in place to ensure additionality, permanence, robust quantification and social safeguards, among other criteria. ?? Why is this important? Deforestation and forest degradation is responsible for 11% greenhouse gas emissions, threatening global efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C. Protecting forests is also essential for carbon sequestration, while safeguarding biodiversity, preventing dangerous ecological tipping points, and supporting sustainable development. CCP-labelled REDD+ credits will play a pivotal role in incentivising action where it’s most urgently needed. The arrival of CCP- labelled REDD+ carbon credits will help to rebuild confidence in the integrity of forest carbon credits and lead to increased private sector investment in forest protection. ?? What’s next? Once programs start issuing CCP-labelled REDD+ carbon credits, the Integrity Council's oversight and assurance role means it will ensure ongoing compliance with our high-integrity requirements. The Integrity Council is continuing to assess carbon crediting methodologies and programs. Two further crediting levels of the REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard V2.0 – the HFLD Crediting Approach and the Removals Crediting Approach - are still in the assessment process and decisions are expected by year end, along with decisions on clean cookstove methodologies. ??
