As we commemorate International Day for People of African Descent, we celebrate the transformative power of #BlackLove as a revolutionary act of resistance, hope, and healing. This day recognizes the extraordinary contributions of people of African descent and calls for the eradication of all forms of discrimination against Africans and members of the African diaspora. In the United States, Black women have always been and continue to be at the forefront of the ongoing struggle for safety and equality, though their contributions to the Civil Rights, LGBTQI+, and women’s movements have not always been acknowledged. Despite facing systemic and structural injustices that lead to health disparities and barriers to accessing care and support services, Black women and communities continue to thrive, contribute, and inspire. Their joy and love challenge oppressive systems and foster communities rooted in care and compassion. Join us in honoring the strength and leadership of the African diaspora. Let’s amplify the voices of people of African descent and advocate for a culture where Black survivors are safe, valued, and have the support they need to heal and be free from abuse. Domestic abuse affects everyone differently. People of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, those experiencing homelessness, and people with disabilities often face additional challenges to creating a life free from abuse, including multiple layers of discrimination and barriers to accessing support. For example, LGBTQ+ individuals may face unique coercive tactics related to their identity, while immigrants and people of color often encounter systemic biases. Understanding these intersections helps us see the full picture of who we are and where additional risks lie. At Emerge, we are committed to building more equitable and effective responses to domestic abuse. We are working toward a community that recognizes and addresses survivors' unique challenges and experiences, and we are learning more about how our identities shape our lives and why it's essential to consider intersectionality in how we support survivors. Together, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate community for people experiencing domestic abuse. https://lnkd.in/gwEWzVJD

On Women’s Equality Day, we honor the courage of those who fought for women's right to vote. At the same time that we acknowledge the progress made, we recognize the work ahead. At Emerge, we believe in every woman’s right to safety and bodily autonomy. We uplift marginalized voices, especially those of Black women, who face higher rates of domestic abuse, discrimination, sexual assault, and transphobia. Domestic abuse stems from the same issues impacting women’s equality and ending it requires our entire community’s effort. Partner with us to envision a future where ALL survivors can heal and experience joy. You can demonstrate your commitment to ending abuse in our community by making a donation, volunteering, creating a corporate partnership, hosting a fundraiser, or donating items from our wish list.

At Emerge, we honor the work, strength, and resilience of Indigenous communities, especially the Indigenous women leading the movement for safety and justice. This month's episode of #LiberationthroughLove addresses a critical issue: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). We are privileged to host April Ignacio, a survivor, advocate, and co-founder of Indivisible Tohono, for a powerful conversation on the root causes of this epidemic, the barriers to safety, and the ongoing fight for justice. By understanding the scope of the #MMIWG crisis and the challenges faced by Indigenous communities, we can all play a role in creating a safer future. Listen now, share widely, and be part of the change.
