"We’re fortunate to have had generous volunteers come in and facilitate programs, but since COVID, volunteerism has dropped significantly. And, quality instructors, educators and professionals cost money, which is why we’re always in need of additional funding. While some government funding is set aside for social services, there’s still a large gap when it comes to making sure all our residents’ needs are met. At the end of last month, we attended the LeadingAge Annual Meeting in Nashville to learn from senior service providers about how to better provide innovative programs that meet our residents' needs. Thanks to everyone who presented and all the other organizations we were able to connect with!

Senator John Curran recently met with residents at our Immanuel Residences community in Downers Grove, IL. He answered questions about local efforts to bring programs to older adults that benefit the community. Senator Curran serves as the Illinois Senate Minority Leader and has represented the 41st District since 2017.

When Urmila first became a resident at Immanuel Residences, she was going to the local YMCA to exercise because the community didn’t have much of an offering in terms of wellness equipment and spaces. But after the renovations the community underwent in 2023, it now has a designated exercise room with additional equipment, including table tennis, a hobby that Urmila has embraced playing with her neighbors.
