We envision a world where People of the Global Majority can Reclaim Health & Wellbeing

关于我们

Embody Lib serves organizations and institutions committed to improving the health & well-being of the communities they serve. Despite significant efforts to close health gaps, disparities among Black, Brown, and Indigenous People of Color—also known as People of the Global Majority—continue to widen due to systemic divestment and exclusion. Mainstream conversations often frame health and well-being as individual responsibilities, overlooking the collective dimensions influenced by the built environment, policies, and other social drivers. Organizations and institutions in the nonprofit and public sectors hold substantial power in shaping the environments, systems, and structures that enable communities to thrive. Our services are designed to transform the culture, policies, practices, and programs that impact the health and well-being of staff, board members, and the communities they serve, especially those that have been historically excluded from decision-making power and resources. Guided by the founder’s lived experiences, professional expertise, and academic background, Embody Lib offers a range of tools, frameworks, and strategies rooted in weight-inclusive, multidimensional, and interdisciplinary approaches, laying the groundwork for working towards just access to resources and fair opportunities for all. Some of our clients include: - Socially Conscious Nonprofit Organizations - Public Health Professionals & Institutions - Local/State Health Departments & Social Service Agencies - Food and Nutrition Service Providers - Grassroots advocates, organizers, and activists - Community Health Workers, Health & Wellness Educators We specialize in the following: - Designing Learning Experiences & Tools - Project Consulting & Management - Meeting Design & Facilitation - Grant Writing Schedule a FREE Introductory Call to learn more: https://www.embodylib.com/book-a-call-or-session

"Body Liberation is the process of dismantling the systems in which we politicize the body while embodying individual and collective liberatory praxis." I know it's a mouthful of well-meaning words, but what does this actually mean? How do we put this into practice? And how does this apply to professionals, organizations, institutions, and companies with a vested interest in improving health and well-being? I have spent years refining Embody Lib's definition of Body Liberation to encapsulate the complexity of the human experience and underscore why we need to dismantle harmful systems that keep everyone from pursuing health and well-being in ways that honor body autonomy, healing justice, and thriving communities. Check out the blog to learn more.

Helping build a world where all bodies are treated with dignity and have what they need to pursue health and well-being in ways that honor autonomy, justice, and thriving communities.

Those that I know or have worked with before know that I move with intention. I sent this email to existing and formers clients and wanted to share these words with my LinkedIn Community as well: "I know that many of you are feeling the weight of the current political and funding landscape. The increasing restrictions on nonprofit operations, shifts in federal and state funding, and legislative actions targeting community-centered work create uncertainty for those of us dedicated to health equity and social justice. At Embody Lib, L.L.C. my commitment has always been clear: I believe all bodies deserve dignity, value, and the power, resources, and opportunities to pursue health and well-being in ways that uphold body autonomy, healing justice, and thriving communities.?While my work extends beyond Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, these principles remain at the core of how I support organizations in transforming policies, programs, and practices to better serve their staff, Board of Directors, and communities. To respond to these challenges,?I am NOT backing down nor will I comply in advance. My record clearly shows that I have NEVER been one to submit to?the status quo, especially when it serves as a way to exclude and marginalize?so many people. I remain committed to breaking barriers in ways that are?strategic, informed, and collaborative. More than anything, I want to make sure?clients have the necessary tools and support, so I am adapting in the following ways: 1???Staying Ahead of Policy Changes & Funding Shifts I am dedicating more time to attending webinars, reading policy briefs, and reviewing legislative trackers to stay informed about executive and legislative actions that impact nonprofit and public-sector funding and operations. This allows me to provide clients with up-to-date insights and strategic guidance tailored to their challenges. 2???Refining Strategies While Staying True to Core Values As the political landscape shifts and language censorship increases, I am learning best practices for adapting messaging and approaches without compromising the core mission and vision of the work. This means ensuring that organizations can continue advocating for justice and equity while navigating restrictions in a way that remains legally sound and impactful. 3???Expanding Support Through Coaching & Community Learning I am increasing opportunities for direct support by offering more 1:1 leadership and professional coaching?and facilitating learning sessions that help individuals, organizations, and community members develop the skills and knowledge needed to navigate these changes and resist harmful policies effectively. I know this moment is difficult, but I want you to know that?your work is necessary and transformative.?If you’d like to discuss how I can support you and your organization, I’d love to connect."

Helping build a world where all bodies are treated with dignity and have what they need to pursue health and well-being in ways that honor autonomy, justice, and thriving communities.

So much has been said already,?and all I can think of doing besides holding space for reflection and grief is to help us get back to basics. Choosing to persist, even in the midst of fear, diminishes the (false) power of despair. More than ever, we need to move beyond our individualistic tendencies in our relationships, our approach to health and well-being,?and how we build community. For example, many people assume that Body Positivity is the same as Body Liberation, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Body Liberation is nothing without the collective and means so much more than 'self-love.' I am hosting a live webinar "Beyond Body Positivity: an Introduction to Body Liberation as Collective Healing" next Wednesday, November 13th, at 8 PM ET, sharing a more nuanced approach that seeks to challenge internalized and systemic oppression. It's free, and the recording will be available to those who register. I hope to see you there.

Hispanic Heritage Month, now most commonly referred to as Latine/x Heritage Month, aims to celebrate the contributions made by those across the Latine Diaspora since Colonization. Hispanic/Latine populations span 27 countries across 4 continents and make up most of the Western Hemisphere. The mainstream perception of who is Hispanic and/or Latinx/e and what countries are part of the diaspora are still pretty unclear for most people. For example, did you know that those from Spain are considered Hispanic? Or that Haiti (a majority Black, French-speaking country) is part of the Latine diaspora? How does this information shape what you know and believe about Latinidad, the cultural ideology with which 62 million people in the United States and 660 million people in Latin America are associated? Check out this blog I wrote in 2021, which was reposted by Afrolatino Forum this year. It discusses the limitations of Latinidad and what it means to leverage my proximity to whiteness as a non-Black Latine with multiracial ancestry in equity, inclusion, and justice efforts. Weight Stigma is a Barrier to Food Security for All Because… ?????? Providers still don’t realize that people of all body sizes and weights can be food insecure ?? Higher-weight people still deserve access to a variety of ALL foods and autonomy around their nourishment. Not just food YOU think is “healthy” ??Even if higher-weight people are screened for food insecurity, they almost never screened for disordered eating patterns, which can exacerbate the negative impact of food insecurity Want to learn more? There’s still time to sign up for the FREE learning session "Foundations in Weight Inclusive Practice: Addressing U.S. Food Insecurity" today at 1 PM ET in honor of #weightstigmaawarenessweek Register here: https://lnkd.in/eH-KHqYC
