Last week, as part of the AIM-Progress APAC hub event in Thailand, we had the privilege of listening to and learning from 14 migrant workers, primarily from Myanmar and a few from Cambodia. This experience was a powerful reminder that behind statistics and data are real human beings with unique, often staggering stories. Thanks to Embode’s facilitation, including icebreakers and trust-building activities, these workers felt safe to share their experiences openly. Through translations from Burmese and Khmer, we heard honest testimonials about their journeys—fleeing their homes, bearing the financial strain of brokers, and navigating life in host countries as well as their dreams for the future and hope. This event, organised in collaboration with the Migrant Working Group Thailand, underscored the importance of meaningful stakeholder engagement which is truly listening to those at the center of human rights challenges and using their insights to drive actionable change.
