??? Marco Büchel Visits Washington, D.C.: Inspiring Connections Between Liechtenstein and the US ???????? This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Marco Büchel, one of Liechtenstein’s most renowned personalities, to Washington, D.C. Marco, who proudly represented Liechtenstein as a professional alpine ski racer on the global stage, continues to serve as an ambassador of our culture and values. ?? Inspiring the Next Generation: On Monday, Marco visited Bancroft Elementary School, where he shared stories about his life as a professional athlete and answered curious questions from the students. His message of perseverance, dedication, and the joy of pursuing one's passion left a lasting impression on these young learners. ?? Strengthening US-Liechtenstein Ties: On Tuesday evening, the Embassy of Liechtenstein hosted a reception for current and former US Capitol staffers who have participated in the annual Liechtenstein Congressional Staff Trip. Marco, who has for years met with Congressional staff as a Goodwill Ambassador, reconnected with familiar faces and shared his unique perspective on how sports and cultural exchanges foster international friendships. Marco also had the chance to explore Washington, D.C.’s most iconic landmarks, from the Capitol Building to the historic monuments along the National Mall, experiencing firsthand the rich history and culture of the US Capital. Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week! This week, we proudly join the United States in celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2024, a moment to recognize the transformative power of apprenticeships in shaping the workforce of the future. For Liechtenstein, apprenticeships are a cornerstone of our education system and the backbone of our economy, fostering strong partnerships between industry, education, and government. Earlier this year, we formalized our partnership with the United States to promote apprenticeships by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Apprenticeships and Work-Based Learning. Signed by Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler and US Ambassador Scott Miller, this MOU promotes cooperation to strengthen apprenticeship programs that equip students and workers with the skills and competencies valued by the private sector, paving the way for quality jobs and successful careers. We believe that exchanging best practices and fostering collaboration between our countries will help build a stronger, more adaptable workforce, capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century. Our President & CEO Ambassador Mark Green sat down with him for a discussion on the implications of Liechtenstein's historic decision to join the IMF. ? On October 30 and 31, 2024, Ambassador Georg Sparber represented Liechtenstein at the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of Ukraine’s Peace Formula, co-organized by Canada, Norway, and Ukraine. The Conference adopted the Montréal Pledge to help return prisoners of war, unlawfully detained civilians, and ensure the return of all children forcibly taken by Russia. Liechtenstein’s position, as always, is to uphold international law and to ensure accountability for the grave violations committed by Russia against Ukraine and its people. Liechtenstein supports all efforts to advance justice for Ukraine, in the International Criminal Court, the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE. The Russian aggression must meet with the full force of the rule of law. Looking back at a historic week as Liechtenstein becomes the IMF’s 191st member Last week, Prime Minister Dr. Daniel Risch led the Liechtenstein delegation to its first Annual Meetings as member of the International Monetary Fund. After signing the Articles of Agreement, Liechtenstein was welcomed by Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and Secretary Ceda Ogada into the Fund and attended the first Annual Meetings Plenary and IMFC meetings. Prime Minister Risch gave interviews with IMF Today and shared Liechtenstein’s experience in joining the IMF at the renowned Peterson Institute for International Economics. On October 22 and 23, 2024, the inaugural US-Liechtenstein Strategic and Economic Partnership Dialogue was successfully launched by Deputy Secretary of U.S. Department of State Kurt Campbell and Liechtenstein Minister of Foreign Affairs Dominique Hasler. The Dialogue marks a significant deepening of the already strong partnership between Liechtenstein and the United States. It will serve as a standing platform to advance strategic cooperation, trade and investment, as well as innovation and security between our countries. A Historic Milestone for Liechtenstein as it joins the IMF Today, the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein Dr. Daniel Risch signed the original Articles of Agreement of the International Monetary Fund at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., marking an historic step for Liechtenstein by making it the IMF’s 191st member. This comes just a month after the people of Liechtenstein voted in favor of joining the IMF by popular vote. By becoming a part of the IMF, Liechtenstein not only gains stability and visibility for its own economy, it also gains a voice in global financial matters and strengthens its commitment to the international rule of law and sustainable growth for all nations.
