Earlier this year, Ematai relaunched and expanded the mission from the former Halachic Organ Donation Society. Ematai’s goal is to empower and support Jews navigating their healthcare journeys with Jewish wisdom. Our mission is to address the full range of opportunities and choices presented by aging, end-of-life treatment, and organ donation. Ematai (“If not now, when?”) is a call to action. We seek to upstream the necessary conversations that will facilitate meaningful choices later in life. Ematai helps individuals and their families anticipate the questions they’ll need to answer as they continue on their healthcare journey. Ematai also explores the big moral questions that society needs to face as technological revolutions change the human experience. We are here to demonstrate how Jewish wisdom responds to the ethical dilemmas often found in healthcare innovation. To this highly relevant moral frontier, Ematai brings together rabbis, healthcare professionals, ethicists, and communal leaders to represent Judaism with a wise and nuanced voice. We have several important initiatives that we are working on: -Netivot, a new advance directive and conversation guide for the Jewish community -Option 18, our Organ Donation Initiative -Realtime consultation line -Hospital Prayers -Rabbinic Training -Educational Resources We invite you to visit our website - www.ematai.org to learn more! #advancecareplanning #organdonation #jewisheducation #endoflifecare

"Even if pain medications would incur a risk of hastening death, Jewish law permits – and even mandates – administering the therapies necessary to address the pain, providing that the intent is solely to alleviate suffering." Did you know this was the approach of Jewish law? Have you been taught differently? Read Rabbi Brody's whole article here: https://lnkd.in/dgPFcmyR

‘Jews do death very well,” says Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody. “We have our funeral homes, we have our shiva. We have shloshim. We have yahrzeit, and we have Yizkor. But the reality of mortality is not something we like to confront.” Do you feel comfortable discussing aging and end-of-life with your loved ones? In the Jewish Chronicle, I discuss why both religion and reason dictate that we should opposed the Terminally Ill Bill that would legalize physician-assisted suicide in the UK. https://lnkd.in/eikDauim
